JoJo Siwa can compete Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Testbut the reality show took her back to her first days as a dancer.
“I think everything I’ve experienced in my past is interesting,” the 20-year-old Siwa said exclusively We weekly. “I go on tour and I’m in charge of the 60 crew members that are there and I have to be the boss. But here it was weird because I was the furthest away from the lead.”
She continued: “We were all the furthest from the lead, and kind enough to sit back and work hard and just be told what to do, I mean, I kind of liked it. Don’t know. I think it’s the dancer in me that felt like I was back to my roots, just sitting there, shutting up and doing what you’re told.”
Siwa first came into the public eye at the age of 9 when she competed in the Dance mothers spinoff Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition in 2013. Siwa has since launched a YouTube channel, released several songs and a film and embarked on a tour. She has also been a participant The Masked Singer And Dancing with the starswhere she formed the first all-female partnership with pro Jenna Johnson.
Now Siwa is part of a group of celebrities led by ex-special forces agents who hope to pass a grueling selection process that mirrors real life. Completing the training exercises in Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test wasn’t her only goal during her time in New Zealand – the YouTube star said she also aspired to become a cheerleader for her fellow contestants.
“I think one of my big priorities when I was there was to keep everyone else’s atmosphere positive and happy,” Siwa reflected. “And I think that’s something I’ve done my whole life.”
While competing on Season 2 of the Fox reality show, which premiered in September, Siwa formed strong friendships with fellow contestants, including those from Bachelor Nation. Tyler Cameron And Nick Vial.
“I remember Nick and I had a moment where he and I were alone in the accommodation, our bedroom, and then I thought, ‘This guy feels like family now,’” Siwa recalls. “And then I feel like you became like a family on day six. However, when we got to the helicopter immersion in the beginning, I mean it was just kind of a free for all. Everyone felt pretty close, but certainly towards the end.”
Siwa has also spoken out about her friendship with Cameron, 30, who she said would “probably” be the best man at her future wedding. While Siwa thinks first Bachelor party contestant is “hot,” she noted that she is not interested in pursuing him.
“I tell my boyfriend Tyler Cameron all the time, ‘I’m the only girl in America who doesn’t want to be with you,'” she told Bustle during an interview earlier this month.
