Children are treated in hospital

Children's Mercy Hospital said NBC News that twelve patients from the Chiefs meeting are being treated in hospital, and most of them are children.

Police Chief Stacey Graves previously said she did not believe the 10 to 15 gunshot victims were children.

Lisa Augustine, media relations manager at Children's Mercy Hospital, said nine of the 12 patients have gunshot wounds.

It is unclear how many of the gunshot victims are children.

Witnesses share horrific experiences

Witnesses to today's shooting are beginning to share their experiences with the gun violence.

Shawn Grew, 46, said: “It was someone within a few feet of me,” The Kansas City star reported.

The father said he heard a single shot fired near a security post east of the stage outside Union Station — the city's cultural center and Amtrak interchange.

High school student Gabe Wallace ran from the gunfire and scraped his head on the concrete while jumping over a barrier.

He said he thought his friends would die if he lost sight of them, Wallace said The Kansas City star.

Kansas City Chiefs share statement

The Kansas City Chiefs have shared a statement regarding today's shooting.

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the end of today's parade and rally,” the team said.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City.”

The team said it is in communication with the mayor's office and the Kansas City Police Department.

The team also confirmed that all players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and that accountability is being met following the shooting.

“We thank the local law enforcement and first responders who responded to the scene to assist,” the message concluded.

Visitors to the Kansas City parade rushed to leave today's terrifying scene when shots rang out, killing one and wounding at least 15 victims.

Brittany Mahomes shared a post

Patrick Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, shared an Instagram story about today's shooting.

“Shooting people is never the solution,” she wrote in her story.

“Praying for Kansas City and America in general, this is tough.”

Linebacker asks for prayers

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill asked for prayers for the victims of today's shooting on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Please join me in prayer for all the victims of this heinous act,” Tranquill wrote.

“Pray that all doctors and first responders will have steady hands and that all will experience complete healing.”
