Amy Roloff‘s first ‘I love you’ to husband Chris Marek is even sweeter than you can imagine.
“Maybe I wrote it on a card or something,” Amy, 61, teased as the couple played the “Not-So-Newly Married Game” exclusively with We weekly. “Because that’s a safer way to say ‘I love you’ instead of verbally.”
Both Chris, 61, and Amy agreed that she was the one who said those three little words first. Although Amy couldn’t remember exactly when she first confessed her feelings, she was confident that she put it in a special message for Chris.
“Because I knew, you know, [with Chris] never been married or [having] kids or something like that, that someone had to say first after dating for a while,” she recalled. “I’m a big fan of the fact that it will never be a perfect moment. You just have to choose the best moment.”
Amy believes Chris was looking for “the perfect” time to tell her. For his part, Chris said he also remembered the first time Amy said “I love you” with a card, teasing that it was “easier” for him to read the words so he could “understand” his response .
“But Amy is very good at giving cards,” he said. “I actually get at least three cards for every occasion, regardless of the occasion. And she always writes something very special and thoughtful in it.
Amy and Chris tied the knot in August 2021 after five years of dating. The ceremony took place at Roloff Farms, which she once shared with her ex-husband Matt Roloff, who was not invited to the wedding. Amy had fond memories of the estate as it was where she raised her and Matt’s four children: twins Zach and Jeremy, 33, daughter Molly, 30, and son Jacob, 27.
Upon their split in 2015, Amy sold her share of the farm to Matt. He initially wanted to sell the estate, but eventually turned it into a rental property in 2022. In a February 2024 episode of Small people, big worldtold Amy that it was difficult to see tenants in her family’s former home.
“I never imagined this would be the house I raised my children in for the past thirty years [would] be a short term rental. There should be a family or someone in there,” Amy admitted during a confessional. “Matt owns it all. It’s not that I wish him ill will. It makes sense, you know, for Matt to do it. I mean, from a business perspective, or whatever, it certainly makes sense.”
