Mumbai: Renowned director Mahesh Bhatt reminisced about filming the timeless song Chitthi Aayee Hai from his 1986 film Naam with late ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas. He revealed that Udhas was initially reluctant to be involved in the film. Pankaj Udhaswho was honored with the Padma Shri award, passed away on Monday at the age of 72. Read with me.

While talking to ANI, Mahesh Bhatt revealed, “I didn’t know that he was ill for so long and when this news suddenly reached me, his smiling face flashed before my eyes, which used to mesmerize everyone. Then I remembered the song Chitthi Aayee Hai from the movie Naam, picturized by Sanjay Dutt and Amrita (Singh) ji. Initially, he was hesitant to act in the film as he said, “I had never acted in films before and I am just a singer who sings in mehfils.” I told you to do the same and I still remember how nervous he was as a newcomer (sic).”

Mahesh Bhatt, the film’s director, added, “He was worried that he wouldn’t live up to our expectations, but the way he performed the song exceeded what we had hoped for (sic).”

He credited Anand Bakshi for the lyrics, Laxmikant Pyarelal for the music, and praised Pankaj Udhas’ voice, stating that the song is adored by music lovers. He added, “I salute Bakshi Sahib because this song came from his heart, the genius of Salim Khan. and Bakshi’s writing, Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music and then Sanjay Dutt’s thirst to prove himself and make a name for himself in the industry. This song connects to the feeling of longing and pain when you are away from home and country. This song is immortal. I am lucky to have met Pankaj ji and this song gave him such a status and name in the industry. People still love this creation and after his death many called me remembering the same song (sic). About the life of Pankaj Udhas

Pankaj Udhas was a popular Indian singer known for his ghazals. He was born in Jetpur, Gujarat on May 17, 1951. Besides ghazals, he also worked in films. His 1980 solo ghazal album “Aahat” brought him considerable recognition. He went on to record several hits including “Mukarar” in 1981, “Tarrannum” in 1982 and “Mehfil” in 1983, among others.
