Man Utd fans criticize Ten Hag as Edinson Cavani, 37, goes back years with hat-trick
EDINSON CAVANI turned back the years by scoring a brilliant hat-trick for Boca Juniors this weekend.
The Uruguayan, 37, extended his playing career by switching to South American giants Valencia last summer.
Cavani had spent one season at LaLiga after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer in 2022.
During Argentina’s top-flight match against Belgrano yesterday, Cavani reminded fans of his talent by scoring a 16-minute hat-trick.
With his team trailing 1-0, the attacker emphatically converted a penalty after 63 minutes.
Six minutes later he put his team at 2-1 with a delicate chip.
And in the 79th minute he completed his hat-trick by converting from close range.
Belgrano got a goal back, but ultimately fell to a 3-2 defeat.
One fan complained about Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag, moaning: “As starter he had Ronaldo and Cavani, but what did he do? Pushed them out.”
A second described Cavani as “my GOAT”.
Cavani joined Man Utd in 2020 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He then scored 19 goals in 59 games for the Red Devils, spread over two seasons.
In April 2022, it was confirmed that Ten Hag would succeed Solskjaer at the start of the next campaign.
Ahead of the final game of that season against Crystal Palace, interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed Cavani would leave on a free transfer.
In August, the attacker signed a two-year contract with Valencia.
After just one season in LaLiga, Cavani left Mestalla to move to Boca.
Since then he has scored six times in 21 games.
Cavani plays alongside fellow ex-Man Utd star Sergio Romero at Boca.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper moved to the Argentine giants in 2022 after a season at Venezia, having ended his six-year spell at Old Trafford in 2021.
