Mariah Carey’s children present her with the Chart Achievement Award at BBMAs

Mary CareyMonroe and Moroccan’s 12-year-old twins presented her with the Chart Achievement Award at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, November 19.

Carey, 54, performed “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for the first time at an awards show. Choreographer (en Grey’s anatomy star) Debbie Allen created a beautiful winter wonderland of skaters dancing around Carey as she belted out the hit. Monroe and Moroccan, meanwhile, sat on the sidelines during the performance. They took center stage as Carey received her golden statue.

“Congratulations mom!” both said as they handed her the trophy.

“Thank you, darlings,” she said. “Thank you so much. I couldn’t ask for better presenters than Roc and Roe. Thanks guys.”

“Billboard has been an integral part of my life for a long time,” Carey said. “While I don’t acknowledge time, I have to admit that some of my most memorable moments in my career have been associated with Billboard and the BBMAs. One thing I really have to say that I am very grateful for is the fact that my fans have been here with me, through the hits, through the misses, the number 1s and the Bubbling Unders.”

The award honors her iconic Christmas jingle, which has climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 every year since 2019. This feat is particularly impressive for a song that debuted in 1994.

“I love you so much. This award is particularly special to me because the song itself changed my entire life. “When I first sat down to write ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’ I never imagined that three months later I would still be standing here receiving a special award for it,” she joked, causing the audience to laugh.

“So I want to thank everyone who makes this song part of their holiday soundtrack every year,” Carey added. “I am so honored to receive this award for the chart-topping performance of this little song, but the greatest achievement for me is to be here with all of you and feel the love that only music can generate.”

Carey’s performance with her children at the BBMAs follows Monroe’s performance at her mother’s sold-out holiday concert in Los Angeles on Friday, November 17. She joined Carey to perform “Jesus Born on This Day” and also showed off her skills during a cover of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping,” according to footage shared on social media by Kim Kardashian.
