Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sing happy birthday and ‘cry tears of joy’ as they make a surprise visit to the family of a teacher killed in the Texas school shooting – whose husband died of a broken heart two days later

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a touching surprise visit to the sister of a teacher killed in a school shooting, before singing Happy Birthday to her in a heartwarming video.

Heroic Irma Garcia sacrificed her own life during the murder at Robb Elementary School in Texas in May 2022 in an effort to keep her young students safe.

Two days later, Irma’s husband, Joe, tragically died of a broken heart.

Irma’s cousin John, 22, took to social media to share photos of the royals’ visit on his social media, with the overwhelmed relative saying he couldn’t believe how the Sussexes were so ‘loving and supportive’.

He said Harry and Meghan coming to their home felt “like having family and friends over” and that they “fit in well.”

John said the couple even surprised his mother with a birthday cake, while videos showed a glowing Meghan smiling warmly as she held the white desert.

She and Harry – who stood among their family in the kitchen – led the singing as they joined the heartwarming scene.

Meghan lit the candles on the cake and started the countdown singing Happy Birthday before saying “and everyone sang too,” to which a family member replied: “You’re first and then we’ll go after!”

The Duchess, 42, wore black skinny jeans and a long-sleeved blouse, which she paired with gold jewelry.

The actress looked cheerful as she held the decorated cake in her hands and presented it to John’s mother, while her husband Prince Harry stood smiling in the background.

And as they shared “intimate memories,” John said they shared “tears of joy” with the Montecito couple.

“Meghan Markle singing my mom happy birthday was the cutest and cutest thing ever, she even bought her a cake,” wrote Ms. Garcia’s grateful cousin.

In a conversation with HELLO! John added: ‘It really meant something to the world that Harry and Meghan turned up to visit the family, there were lots of tears of joy and heartfelt moments.

‘They were the nicest, most humble people ever, it was like having family and friends over, having a great time together.

“They fit right in, we laughed a lot and shared intimate memories together.”

John explained that the couple had kept in “contact” with the Garcia family every month since the senseless shooting.

“They keep in touch every other month, sometimes a little longer, but their busy lives really made their visit feel more special,” he said.

On May 24, 2022, 19 children and two teachers were killed after a gunman walked into Robb Elementary School in Texas and started shooting.

One of the children, 10 years old, aspired to become a lawyer and another wanted to become a marine biologist.

A third student had saved money to go to Disney World. But they never got the chance to travel.

Meghan visited Uvalde just two days after the shooting, offered her condolences and placed a bouquet of white roses, tied with a purple ribbon, at the cross for 10-year-old Uziyah Garcia.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes told the newspaper that Meghan had gone there unannounced to privately express her condolences.

It is believed that after the visit, the Duchess went to the Herby Ham Activity Center to deliver crates of food and drink to blood donors.

On Friday, Harry and Meghan visited it all with smiles as they entered Austin’s La Barbecue restaurant.

Harry and Meghan both embraced co-owner Alison Clem in a warm hug before being escorted inside where they greeted other employees.

The Duchess appeared relaxed as she mingled with restaurant workers and even posed for photos with her husband.

This comes as the Duchess of Sussex is said to have hired a ‘new PR guru’ in time for her relaunch in Britain.

Meghan wants a killer publicist to help her promote a new mystery venture in 2024 that has reportedly been in the works for months.

An unnamed director has been appointed to help her handle the duchess’s British and European media activities and promote Archewell, the foundation she runs with husband Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex’s new project has been in the pipeline since last year and is described by The Daily Telegraph as ‘very personal to her’ and ‘real to who she is’.
