Mike Tindall has revealed he now calls Prince William 'five martinis Willy' after joking that his wife's cousin 'isn't the best drinker'.

The former rugby player, 45, told the Subway that Prince William has recently improved his tolerance for alcohol.

Last year, Zara Tindall's husband said during an appearance on Rob Burrow's podcast that the royal name was 'One Pint Willy'.

Mike said: 'To be honest the one pint name Willy was a number of years out of date and we gave him a bit of training.

'He can handle more than one pint now. 'We now call him Willy for five martinis. I think he'd like him to be able to handle more than a pint.'

Prince William is known to Mike Tindall as 'one pint Willy' because he is not a big drinker, Mike Tindall previously revealed

Last month, Price William revealed that Mike Tindall had apologized to him for revealing the funny nickname on the podcast.

William spoke to rugby legend Rob Burrow, 41, ahead of an official ceremony to present the sportsman and motor neurone disease campaigner with his CBE at Headingly Stadium.

He continued, “Mike has a few secrets that he told me that the kids found very funny.”

William, smiling knowingly and shaking his head, replied, “I think these might be some of the nicknames. Was it you who gave him the nicknames?'

The Prince said to Rob: 'He has apologized to me for that. I was like, “Mike, if you say you're not going to mention anyone's nicknames, that doesn't mean you can say my nickname. That's not fair.”

In December 2023, the ex-England rugby star admitted that he and his wife Zara call each other 'munchkin', while she has her husband saved in her phone as a nickname ending in 'kitten'.

The Tindalls made the revelations in a special podcast with rugby legend Rob Burrow, who is battling motor neurone disease.

When asked by Burrow if he has any nicknames for any of the royals, Mike says: 'To the Prince of Wales he is known as One Pint Willy.

'He is known to me as One Pint Willy because he is not the best drinker, coming from a sport that revolves around the social aspect and where a few beers are often drunk. That's one I'll give away to the Prince of Wales.'

Zara can be heard laughing before she says, “Oh my god. You're in so much trouble.'

Burrow also asked the couple if they had pet names for each other.

Mike says, “We actually call each other Munchkins a lot. I don't know why that started, but it stuck.

“I'll let Zara decide if she wants to give away what I have in her phone because…”

Mike also admits he dreams of his son, two, Lucas, becoming a professional golfer – and wanted to give him the middle name 'Mulligan'.

“The two-year-old is where I pin my dreams,” says the 2003 Rugby World Cup winner.

'I actually wanted his middle name to be Mulligan because if he became a professional golfer he would drop the Lucas and just become Mulligan Tindall.

Zara replies, “It's in my phone as something else and it ends with kitten.”

“I thought that would be the best golf name ever. Plus, Mulligan means the offspring of a balding man, so that was perfect!'

Burrow tells the Tindalls that he has always wanted to deliver the alternative Christmas message, which is broadcast on Channel 4 at the same time as the King's Christmas Message on the BBC.

Zara says, “I definitely think you could do that other Christmas speech.” You would definitely rock it and be a huge inspiration to many people.

“I'm sure (King Charles) would just let you do your own thing. I hope to see that someday. I think you'll just record it and send it over there!'
