New Delhi: Mitchell Johnson is facing massive criticism on social media after Warner reached his 49th international century in the first Test between Australia and Pakistan at Optus Stadium in Perth on December 14. The former Australian pacer recently criticized Warner for being given the opportunity to nominate his retirement match despite being involved in the infamous sandpaper incident in the past.

“As we prepare for David Warner’s farewell series, can someone tell me why? Why a struggling Test opener gets to name his own retirement date. And why does a player at the center of one of the biggest scandals in Australian cricket history deserve a hero’s dismissal?” wrote Johnson in his column for ‘The West Australian’

“Although Warner was not alone in Sandpapergate, he was a senior member of the team at the time and someone who enjoyed using his perceived power as a “leader.” It’s been five years and David Warner has still never really gotten over the ball tampering scandal. What will fans bring to Warner? Bunnings would be sold out without sandpaper.”

“The way he is going out now is backed by more of the same arrogance and disrespect towards our country. Warner is certainly not Australia’s Test captain and never deserved to be. In fact, he ends his career under a lifetime leadership ban.”

“It is the shame of ball tampering in South Africa that many will never forget. Does this really deserve a swan song, a last hurray against Pakistan, which was predicted a year in advance as if it were bigger than the game and the Australian cricket team,” Johnson added in the column.

Warner hit back at all his critics after the much-awaited red ball century against Pakistan at the famous Optus Stadium. He said: “My job is to come here and score points, it was good to get a partnership with Uzzie. (About his century) It feels great, it’s about putting runs on the board for the bowlers. There is no better way to silence the critics than by putting points on the board.”

Mitchell Johnson is under heavy attack in the social space. Warner fans are hitting back at the pacer after this crucial blow. This series against Pakistan is the last red ball series for Warner. The opener will hang up his whites after this series.
