My mother's 'abanico' method of cleaning comforters provides a good, deep wash

A cleaning guru has shared her mother's magical tips for getting a spotless duvet.

Since then, this daughter's duvet has also shined.

“Do you have a duvet – and when was the last time you washed it?” asked Sharon Garcia (@sharoncleanseverything).

She showed her own bedding, which was urgently needed cleaning but don't worry, she was about to reveal the family secrets.

“There are cleaning techniques that my mother taught me that I realized I haven't shared with everyone,” she said.

Sharon demonstrated her from mother reliable method.

“I fold it in like a fan — my mother called it an abanico in Spanish. I fold it under and under again and again, creating gaps between them to ensure a good deep wash,” she said.

This self-proclaimed cleaning industry CEO repeated this technique again until it looked like she had perfected her flawless folding technique.

“I do this about four times a month. I do use a duvet cover and I like to change my sheets weekly,” she says.

Even when her bedding burrito was done, her search for extra clean laundry didn't end there as she threw her now folded comforter into the washing machine.

After treating the stains with some Procyon, she added some vinegar.

As her favorite cleaning product, OxiClean white revive, ran out, she replaced the product with Arm and Hammer plus OxiClean.

“When it comes to your comforter, remember: wash it cold with a heavy load and dry it on a low temperature,” she said.

It seemed that she was definitely her mother's daughter.

She also added wool balls to speed up the drying process.

Arm and Hammer with OxiClean retails for $9.48 at Walmart and is described as providing powerful stain-removing properties and a fresh scent.

Her pro-tip product had many satisfied customers.

“Cleans well and smells great and because it has OxiClean in it, I hardly notice any stains after washing in this – unless they are old,” one buyer wrote.
