Stonney says she thought the gender reveal cannon only contained confetti, and that she wouldn’t have set it off indoors if she knew it had smoke in it.

“Bringing the cannon was such a happy moment. We were given 5-10 minutes to enjoy it, and then the alarm went off,” she explained.

“We thought it was confetti. Of course if we knew it was powder we wouldn’t have used them as we were indoors.

She added that the siren went on for so long that they just “got used to it” — even continuing to dance as the screams continued in the background.

“I really saw the teamwork of everyone. They carried each other and everyone came to us to take pictures, but my eyes were only on the alarm.

“Everything in my head was chaos. I smiled on the outside for all my friends who wanted to take pictures of me, but my head was really on that alarm.

“I wanted it to go out — I can’t do anything either. I’m pregnant so I wouldn’t even be able to do it myself.

Fortunately, after nearly an hour of struggling with the insistent alarm, a partygoer flipped a switch in the main power system downstairs – and peace was restored.

The mother-to-be claims the scene was “chaos” and she feared the fire department would have been called if they hadn’t calmed down the noise in time.

‘No one knew how to stop it. We tried to figure it out. We were afraid firefighters would come if we didn’t turn it off.

“We tried to blow air on it with a towel and carry each other.

“Many people tried to help us. There were people wearing each other who didn’t even know each other – they were just trying to fix it.

‘When the DJ saw that the alarm was not going to go off any time soon, he started playing disco music and people started dancing over the alarm. We just got used to it.

“We finally found the main power, which turned it off.”

“My husband and I were so happy, especially when we found out about the girl,” she said.

“It was just annoying because the momentum stopped when the alarm started ringing.

“After we turned it off, we just got on with the party.

“Some people went home, and some people stayed and enjoyed the rest of the music.

It’s a good thing the alarm went off at the end, after the gender reveal, because what if that happened halfway through? It would have ruined everything.

“It was good timing, it was late at night anyway, so it got other people going home, otherwise we would have stayed there until midnight.

“It’s a really funny memory to look back on. It’s very memorable. Me and my family designed everything from start to finish and everyone had a great moment [together] also.’
