Moment Prince William tells chatty Kate to come to Jordan’s royal wedding

For all their finery and glamour, the Prince and Princess of Wales looked more ordinary than regal today as they were caught on camera playing out a short scene that is surely well rehearsed in most relationships.

The light-hearted exchange took place at the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, and most notably when Kate and William were at the front of the line to greet the prince, 28, and his bride, architect Rajwa Alseif, 29.

In the clip, while Kate was chatting animatedly with the bride, William can be heard saying “chop chop” and quietly encouraging her to keep moving.

But while the Prince of Wales was starting to get a little restless, his wife, a vision in a pink dress, was unperturbed.

While William waited, Kate complimented the new bride on her appearance and Rajwa struck up a smiling conversation with her characteristic warmth.

In the end, Kate clearly sensed William’s restlessness, which may have been related to the long line of guests also queuing to greet the newlyweds, and backed off – though she continued the conversation to the end.

The Prince and Princess of Wales made a surprise visit to Jordan to attend the wedding of the country’s Crown Prince Hussein.

William, 40, and Kate, 41, are among a host of foreign royalty who attended the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein, 28, and architect bride Rajwa Alseif, 29, at Zahran Palace on Thursday.

The presence of the British royals – spotted last night at a luxury hotel in Amman – had been kept secret and was only confirmed by Jordanian state media a few hours before the start of the palace ceremony.

William and Kate were also joined by Princess Beatrice, 34, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 39, and seemed overjoyed as they watched the wedding of Sandhurst graduate Hussein and Saudi Arabian-born architect Rajwa, also 28, in the garden of the Zahran Palace.

As they left the palace, the newlyweds passed under a salute of swords as they descended the red-carpet-lined steps.

Rajwa shone in a white dress by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, featuring a long train embroidered with flowers and a sparkling diamond tiara.

King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan proudly watched their son get married in an Islamic ceremony known as a “katb ktab,” held in a gazebo and officiated by the Royal Hashemite Court Imam Dr. Ahmed Al Khalileh.

Kate, who lived in Jordan for a brief period during her childhood, led the glamorous guests at the event in a blush pink lace dress, also by Elie Saab. Beatrice wore a silver dress with sequins from the British label Needle & Thread for the occasion.

In a touching nod to Queen Elizabeth, the newlyweds left the wedding for their reception in a 1984 Range Rover specially modified for her visit to the country.

Prior to the event, Rajwa was driven to the palace in a 1968 Rolls-Royce Phantom V, which was custom built for the late Queen Zein al-Sharaf, the Crown Prince’s great-grandmother.

It was used by King Charles and Queen Camilla during a trip to Jordan in November 2021.

Crown Prince Hussein beamed during the wedding ceremony today. Rajwa also seemed overjoyed as they exchanged rings and kissed to seal their union.

After the royal wedding, several women performed Zaghrata – hululation – a joyful sound commonly used to express happiness in Jordanian and Arab celebrations, and the newlyweds greeted their guests.

After the ceremony, the Royal Hashemite Court released a statement congratulating the royal couple on their marriage.

It read: ‘The Royal Hashemite Court congratulates Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, as well as the Royal Hashemite Family, and wishes Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein and Princess Rajwa Al Hussein a lifetime of happiness.’

US First Lady Jill Biden and various members of royal families from around the world are in attendance, including the King and Queen of the Netherlands.
