Bodycam footage shows Deputy Jessy Hernandez throwing herself to the ground after hearing a suspicious noise behind a car.

The Florida The officer then rolls around on the floor as he takes cover before pulling out his gun and firing a slew of bullets into the back of his own police car.

Hernandez told his bosses that he believed the man he had just arrested and handcuffed into his car, Marquis Jackson, had shot him.

Jackson was extensively searched for weapons before getting into the backseat, reports said.

Hernandez can be heard shouting “shots fired” in the clip as all hell breaks loose as he positions himself behind his car and opens fire.

After a series of bullets fly into the trunk, Hernandez lets out a scream as he falls to his side and tells his fellow Sergeant Beth Roberts, “I'm hit, I'm hit!”

Roberts then joins in the shooting as Hernandez crawls across the road saying he was “shot by the car” and continues to groan in pain.

In the footage – filmed in November 2023 – Hernandez then tells Roberts: “I'm fine, I feel weird, but I'm fine.”

Someone is then heard pleading with the officers to stop, but is told to “get back” as the shouting continues across the street.

Hernandez tells his fellow officer that the bullet “might have hit my vest” as he takes cover behind a parked car.

A woman is then heard crying loudly and yelling at the police in the video as they check on Jackson.

A second later Police The unit arrives with sirens blaring as a pair of officers with assault rifles call Hernandez and ask where he was hit.

Jackson was not injured in the shooting, but says he was traumatized by the events.

He took to social media to describe what was going through his mind when he heard gunshots hitting the car around him.

He said: 'All I could do was lean over and play dead to avoid being shot in the head.

“I was terrified and I knew the only thing I could rely on was God! I ignored everything and prayed!

“The windows were hitting me all the time as the bullets kept flying over me. I was blessed not to be hit by any bullets or physically injured, but mentally I'm not doing well.”

Florida officials opened an investigation into the situation and were told by Hernandez that he began shooting after hearing a suppressed weapon being fired.

He then said he felt an “impact” on his right side that he thought was a bullet.

But after investigators gave him his bodycam footage back, he saw an acorn bounce against his car and make a noise.

Hernandez said, “What I heard sounded louder to me than a jerk hitting the roof of the car, but there is clearly a jerk hitting the roof of the car.”

He resigned after the incident in December.

Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden said his actions were “ultimately not justified” but believed “his life was in immediate danger.”
