Analysis compiled by comparison website Finder sees both Britain and the US in the list of countries with the most expensive pints in the world.

It may also come as a surprise to many that Britain isn’t even in the top 10 when it comes to a city with the most expensive pints in the world.

Given that both states have strict regulations when it comes to alcohol consumption, it is no surprise that the cities of Doha and Dubai, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates respectively, have the most expensive pint of beer on average.

Ordering a pint of beer in Doha will cost you an average of £10.47, while doing the same in Dubai will cost a shade under a tenner at £9.93.

The Gulf countries are recognized as an expensive place to drink the amber nectar and the top three is completed by Oman’s capital Muscat, where a pint costs an average of £8.68.

Other parts of the world known for their expensive pints include the Scandinavian countries and Western Europe.

Iceland, Finland, Norway and Denmark are all on the list, meaning you’ll have to pay an average of just over £7 for a beer in Reykjavik and Oslo.

While £6.06 may sound like an excessive amount to part with for a pint in Copenhagen, that’s only 16p more expensive than the average price of a pint in London, which costs £5.90.

Other notable names on the list include world-famous tourist hotspot New York and the wealthy Swiss city of Zurich.

It’s rounded out by the French capital Paris, which eclipses London for a fractionally cheaper pint at 4p, coming in at £5.86.

Finder’s research also found that the average cost of a pint in Britain will be £4.21 in 2023. This increased by 1.6% from an average of £4.15 in 2022 and by just over 8% from the UK average of £3.89 in 2021.

It found that the cheapest average pint – of the 46 analyzed – could be bought in Derby for just £3.00, which is £1.21 less than the UK average of £4.21.

After Derby, Kingston Upon Hull and Aberdeen are the second and third cheapest cities to buy a beer.

Kingston upon Hull rounds out the top three cheapest pints per city in Britain, charging £3.32 and Aberdeen’s average is £3.43.

The list of the most expensive cities in the world to order a pint comes after online database Numbeo revealed the cheapest places in Europe where you can order a beer.

Debrecen, located in eastern Hungary, offers the cheapest pint in Europe: just 92 cents ($1.12) per 0.5 liter.

Thirsty travelers can enjoy a cheap and cheerful holiday to Hungary’s second-largest city in a place that’s fairly easy to reach, with Wizz Air operating return flights from London Luton for under £100 ($124.18).
