Mom-to-be feels ‘dirty’ after finding carpet beetles in her bedroom

An expectant mother has appealed for help and advice after discovering eight carpet beetles in her bedroom.

Latoya has adopted Mrs Hinch’s cleaning tips group on Facebook to share a photo of one of the offending creatures, as she admitted she didn’t even have carpet in the room – so wasn’t sure where they came from.

“Help! I found about eight carpet beetles in my bedroom today,” she wrote.

“The room has no carpet at all as we haven’t lived in it long and can’t afford it at the moment, so it’s still floorboards.

“No other rooms appear to be affected.”

Latoya added that she feels “so gross and horrible” and revealed that her due date is only two weeks away, so she is “really desperate to get this sorted out.”

She started removing the insects herself: she stripped the room, vacuumed everywhere and cleaned the windows and windowsills with white vinegar.

She also “sprayed white vinegar around all the edges of the room.”

But she concluded: “Does anyone have any other tips to help me get rid of it for good?”

People quickly took to the comments section to reassure Latoya, with one person writing: “We get these every year, usually in March/April, but this year we saw some in February, probably because of the warm weather.

“I always use this Zero In spray from Amazon and it is very effective.

“Wipe down surfaces regularly and keep things away from the windowsill.

“Since you are pregnant, I recommend wearing a mask.

“Once the area has been cleaned, spray this heavily around the room and close the doors!!

“You will find that if you do this, they will not come back and if they do, repeat the process.”

The Zero In Carpet Beetle and Moth Killer spray sells on Amazon for £7.67.

“If you have a sofa bed in your bedroom check the bases, they look like a sofa bed,” added another.

“I had a problem with it, I couldn’t find the source at first and then found them in the divan base, I burned it lol.

“It took three years for them to be completely out of the house, but they came back every spring.

“Good luck, I went crazy trying to get rid of them – I was also pregnant when I found them.”

“I had these in my old house and they scared me,” a third admitted.

“I got some bug spray from pets at home and got rid of them and they never came back!

“Maybe innocent, but I didn’t want bugs in my house.”

“First of all, don’t feel dirty,” someone else wrote.

“It’s a bug – they’re everywhere, new house or old house, we’ll all have something lurking somewhere.

“Mine are wood lice, I find them everywhere, or worse, the snails!”
