A mum has revealed how she became debt free by following eight steps that made a ‘fundamental difference’ to her financial situation.

She urges people to be ‘frugal’ with their money, which she says helps when it comes to saving money.

Vicky, who has over 11.3k subscribers on her YouTube channel @TheMummyBubblesays: “No matter how big or small your income is, no matter what your expenses are.

“These simple frugal habits have helped transform my financial situation and balance my budget. I think they will make a difference.”

She also says that “frugal doesn’t mean boring.”

Vicky continues, “I’ve learned that it’s really about embracing the real joys in your life and freeing yourself from debt.

“Freedom to make choices about the kind of life you want and the freedom that comes from the peace of mind of knowing I can pay all my bills.”

The mother of two believes everyone should look at their finances first, consider their financial priorities and make a plan that is realistic.

She says, “The next habit is to stop being wasteful.

“This applies to food, buying new things and energy consumption.

“Honestly, you can apply it to just about anything in your life that costs you money.

“With food you have to make a plan to use up every little thing.”

Vicky believes that meal planning should be a top priority because once you make that plan, you won’t waste the ingredients you bought.

You can not only get dinner from the store, but also lunch.

Energy consumption involves switching off things that you are not using.

She says: “We don’t use vampy devices like your TV that drains power if you leave it on standby, or lights in rooms you’re not really in.

“A tumble dryer will be much more expensive to run than a dehumidifier, or you can always line dry your clothes outside, which won’t cost you anything.”

Her next tip is to ask yourself if you can get it cheaper or for free elsewhere.

She says: “For example, I recently switched from having my hair colored at the hairdresser, the costs of which seem to keep increasing, to now doing it at home.

“This saves me hundreds of euros per year.

“You can also try negotiating and exploring cheaper alternatives for your utilities and subscriptions.

“For example, with Sky TV I once saved us 40 percent on our regular bill by just ringing them up and saying I don’t think this is good value for money for me.

‘I’m thinking about leaving. All of these companies have customer retention teams that want to keep you.

“They want to keep your regular activities, so it’s worth trying.”

Vicky also recommends making repairs in your home yourself where possible.

She says there’s a YouTube video “for just about every household chore you can think of.”
