Mom who wanted black and white locks claims it ‘broken off’ after hairdresser bleached it 3 times

A woman has revealed how her hair “broke off” after trying a viral trend that resulted in her locks turning “two shades of purple.”

Mel Oakes from the UK shared her ordeal on TikTok revealing the different stages of what her barnet looked like and the original inspiration behind it.

She explained how she originally asked for ash blonde hair with a block in the front in a dark color – but ended up getting dry, plum-colored locks. After attempts to fix it, things got worse when her brittle beret started to break.

While telling the story, the mother of one child explained that her hair was damaged two years ago, but added that it has taken all this time to restore it.

After the story, viewers were shocked at the state Mel’s hair ended up in, suggesting that the multiple hairdressers she had visited had been irresponsible.

Explaining what she’d asked for versus what she’d gotten, Mel shared a photo of a woman with half brunette hair and half bleach blonde. She then shared a photo of herself with dry, frizzy hair in deep purple and gray tones.

She turned the camera back on her, put her hands over her mouth and said, “No words, literally not one.

‘That cost me £160 and I didn’t get any of my money back, but anyway I went to another hairdresser the day after and was like, ‘Please look this up for me’.

‘She [hairdresser] said she could sort it out for me, but you’ll have to sign a waiver because we’ll probably have to bleach it three or four times.”

Mel continued her gruesome story: “She put bleach through my hair three times and put me through two bleach baths, and this is what my hair looked like afterwards.”

Mel then shared a snip of her wet hair, but with significantly more blonde in it than before and most of the dark out.

She explained, “She [the hairdresser] didn’t even want to dry my hair because she knew it was so damaged. She probably did more damage than the first hairdresser, I’ll be honest, but I couldn’t possibly walk around with my hair two shades of purple.’

At this point, most people would probably cut their losses and invest in various moisturizing products and generally try to leave their hair alone – but not Mel.

She continued, “I wasn’t happy about that because I’m sure someone else wouldn’t be, so I put another bleach on it.”

After showing the last photo, Mel went on to say that over the course of 18 months after dyeing, the hair in the front of her head broke off, breaking off about four inches from the roots.

Mel said, “It broke and broke and broke.”

Throughout the rest of the clip, Mel continued to share videos and photos of her hair trying to grow it back.

Naturally, many people had opinions about the video and rushed to share their thoughts.

One person wrote, “Like why would you even do so much chemical damage to your hair all at once….”

Mel's second hair transformation

And this is what Mel's hair looked like after the third bleaching

During her video, Mel said that after the first paint job went wrong, she went to another salon to have it corrected. After two bleaching cycles and two bleach baths, it was so damaged that the hairdresser refused to dry it (L). Still unsatisfied with the color, she decided to bleach it herself, finally getting it to a color she could tolerate (R).

Mel says the first color was two years ago and her hair still hasn't returned to normal as she revealed it still had a lot of damaged ends

‘I’m a hairdresser n I don’t understand why the next hairdresser bleached your hair!! The hair was already pre-pigmented so couldn’t [have] got over it,” someone else wrote.

While another barked, ‘2nd barber should have said no! It’s a sorting process! Shocking from both hairdressers’

However, Mel later revealed that her hair was slowly getting stronger after noticing a TikTok trend that recommended using rosemary oil.

Widely used in hair products for years, the Mediterranean herb contains carnosic acid, which is known to heal nerve damage and tissue damage and improve cell turnover, making it great for strengthening hair.
