ALMOST every new release seems to contain an element of survival crafting these days.

After all, Palworld is just Pokémon but with survival crafting, while Enshrouded is an RPG with survival crafting.

If we enjoyed picking rocks and hitting trees, we'd leave the house, and we clearly don't because we're professional gamers.

However, we still decided to give Nightingale a chance because, as professional gamers, it's our job.

Our aversion to survival crafting comes from years of cheap asset flips that are boring, lack coherence, and lack original ideas.

We played Nightingale for several hours and we were hooked on the feeling of discovery.

A lot of thought has clearly gone into the setting, which is honestly refreshing for the genre.

Set in an alternate history, it is filled with famous historical figures in a world inhabited by interdimensional beings called Fae.

They brought about magic for humanity, and as such the populace became more focused on the supernatural than on industry.

You start by being able to do the basics, like picking rocks and punching trees.

However, this soon progresses to conjuring fire from your fingertips, creating spells and creating potions that move you at superhuman speed.

You can explore more worlds through portals and customize them to your needs, thanks to a smart empire map system.

By combining these cards in a certain way, a new realm is created that contains exactly the resources you need.

Biomes can even be customized as you explore them, changing the weather and atmosphere to suit your mood.

Portals can also be used to visit the home planets of others, and you can access them at any time, both online and offline.

There's also an impressive sense of freedom: with the ability to slide and climb, you can go anywhere your endurance allows.

This was just a quick look at everything Nightingale has to offer, but it's definitely a promising sign that survival crafting could be making a comeback.
