“Viewers seeing this screen for the first time invariably do not see the 16 circles segmented from the background,” the illusion creator wrote. Anthony Norcia in 2006.

“Instead, they see a series of rectangles that they often describe as ‘door panels,’” he explained.

Also known as coffers, these are recessed panels often found on the ceiling.

Cases are often shaped like a square, rectangle or octagon and decorate famous structures such as the Pantheon in Rome, Italy.

“The illusion pits segmentation signals against what appears to be a very strong prior, then interprets the image as a series of three-dimensional ‘suitcases’ with closed boundaries,” Norcia wrote.

Benefits of brain teasers and optical illusions

Researchers have developed many tests to show how different areas of the brain respond to brain teasers and optical illusions. There are many advantages.

  • Not only are they entertaining, but they also shed light on how our brains interpret visual data.
  • By regularly exercising your brain a little, you increase your ability to focus and observe details.
  • Research has shown that people who regularly challenge themselves with optical illusions and puzzles see major improvements in their problem-solving skills, concentration and attention.
  • Better concentration and attention span can help prevent cognitive decline in old age.
  • Optical illusions can improve vision by allowing you to see small print.

Norcia used both horizontal and vertical lines that easily blend into the background, making it difficult to see all the circles.

The lines also have different thicknesses and shades of gray, making it difficult to focus.

Set a timer for 15 minutes to find the 16 circles and prove your high IQ.

Once you train your eyes to recognize the circles, it will become easier to spot them.

If you found this illusion too easy, try this one for an extra challenge.
