People are only now realizing what Tony’s chocolate is actually called – after years of misunderstanding it

The chocolate with bright orange packaging, combined with white block letters may be distinctive enough, but did you know what it’s called?

Tony’s Chocolonely is the Dutch chocolatier responsible for the ethically sourced treat found in supermarket aisles across Britain, but after a recent TikTok clip it appears many have butchered the name.

An excerpt with the title Well, this is embarrassing posted by grace louise known as @grac31ouise on TikTok, it turned out that many of us got the name of the popular chocolate wrong.

Stunned, Grace admitted in the video that she had been calling the neon-wrapped treat “Tony’s Chocoloney” for years, but discovered she was wrong.

‘S***, it’s always been Chocolonely!’ she said.

Her clip has since been viewed a whopping 1.7 million times, and several users have admitted they’ve been making the same blunder for years – with one even suggesting a reason for the strange name.

Grace appeared to be in the supermarket with her friend, who appears visibly shocked after realizing the chocolate is in fact called Tony ChocoLONELY instead of Tony Chocoloney.

One TikTok user admitted: ‘Honestly, until now I thought it was just called Tony’s Chocolate.’

Another wasn’t so convinced by Grace’s video, putting it down to just a “batch typo,” and one hilariously dubbed the sweet treat “Tony’s Chocolate Cologne.”

And questions were asked about why the chocolate was so ‘lonely’, with one user replying: ‘Him [the founder] thought he was the only one who wanted slavery-free chocolate’, hence the label ‘lonely’ in the name of his chocolate.

The chocolate company was founded in 2005 after a renowned Dutch investigative journalist had to campaign for exploitation-free chocolate production.

Meanwhile, one user even thought it was called ‘Tony Chocolatony’, and another described it as: ‘The new Mandela Effect’.

The Mandela Effect is a type of false memory that occurs when large numbers of separate people remember the same piece of misinformation.

It takes its name from the widespread false memory that Nelson Mandela died in prison in the 1980s.

Content creator Grace, who has around 1,000 followers, joked: ‘Why can’t any of us read?’

Interestingly, founder Teun van de Keuken first tried to curb slavery in the cocoa industry, but was unable to do so due to his work as a journalist.

He then took matters into his own hands and sold no less than 20,000 bars in two days.

In May, the chocolate from the Netherlands arrived on the shelves of Woolworths and Coles and immediately became a hit.

This comes after an unlikely collaboration in Australia earlier this year, which saw foodies treated to a Tony’s Chocoloney-themed ice cream, less than six months after the brand took Australian supermarket aisles by storm.

In May, the chocolate from the Netherlands arrived on the shelves of Woolworths and Coles and immediately became a hit.

The companies have also pledged to help end child labor in the chocolate industry – as part of their unique partnership.

As part of the collaboration, two ‘Ben & Jerry’s’ themed chocolate blocks will also be available. The ice cream, called Chocolatey Love A-Fair, is based on Tony’s popular sea salt bar with milk caramel.

The two new Tony’s bars are inspired by the Strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Fudge Brownie flavors from Ben & Jerry’s. It’s love at first bite.
