Prince William leads the Welsh Guards on horseback in a show of pomp as the army takes part in the final rehearsal prior to Trooping the Color

With just a week to go until King Charles III’s birthday parade, the Welsh Guards are today fine-tuning their routine ahead of Trooping the Color – and they were led by Prince William.

The 40-year-old Prince of Wales, who became Colonel of the Welsh Guards in December 2022, looked incredible in his red military uniform, which he paired with the traditional bearskin hat.

On his chest, he proudly displayed several medals during the practice session, known as the Colonel’s Review, at London’s Horse Guards Parade.

The ceremony – in which William inspected the soldiers on horseback – is in fact a final rehearsal for Trooping The Colour, which takes place next Saturday to mark the King’s official birthday.

This year’s event is particularly significant as it is the first since Charles ascended the throne last September. But while the British royal family is usually in attendance for the occasion, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been invited, according to Richard Eden’s The Daily Mail.

He wrote in his column today: ‘When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties three years ago, Queen Elizabeth said they would ‘always be dearly loved members of my family’.

And Buckingham Palace officials were keen to emphasize that they would continue to be invited to family events. However, I hear that Prince Harry and Meghan have not been invited to the King’s Birthday Parade this coming weekend.

“It will be the first time in Harry’s life that he has not been invited to the monarch’s official birthday celebrations.”

“I’m afraid it’s a reflection of the current state of affairs,” says a source.

Harry and Meghan traveled from California last year for Trooping the Color, which was part of the late Queen’s platinum anniversary weekend.

The couple had been invited by the late monarch to attend the ceremony along with other members of the royal family from offices overlooking Horse Guards Parade.

However, they were not asked to be on the balcony of Buckingham Palace later in the day for the official flypast.
