The 26-year-old singer told Capital

Of their close bond, she said: “I’m literally passionate, you know what I mean. My grandmother knows my dreams, she prayed for me for my dreams. For example, to be able to bring her on stage and also hold her hand in the air.

“You know, in African culture it’s honor, you know? It’s like a big deal. She is moved. I was on FaceTime with her yesterday and she said, “Rachel, thank you.” I thought, “Grandma, stop!” It was too much, man.”

Discussing Agatha’s performance at the BRIT Awards last weekend, Raye admitted that her grandmother spent ‘months’ designing her incredible green velvet dress.

The 26-year-old singer said she was “raised” by her grandmother, who moved from Ghana to care for her while her parents worked full-time jobs.

Raye said, “And when I tell you, that woman raised me – my parents worked full time – she picked me up from school every day and took me home from school. She moved from Ghana to raise us, like, 'That woman knows my heart'

‘She spent months designing her dress. My beautiful grandmother, she sent me pictures. ‘Do you like this fabric?’ Grandma, grandma is beautiful. ‘Do you like this?’ She was so excited for that evening.

“And when I tell you, that woman raised me – my parents worked full-time – she picked me up from school every day and took me home from school. She moved from Ghana to raise us. That woman knows my heart.’

Raye said this particular win meant the most to her, explaining it as the “most validating moment an artist could ask for.”

She added, “I didn’t even expect Best Songwriter, that means really, really, really, really, really, really a lot to me too. Yes, I haven’t prepared any speeches.’

‘What it is: preparations. It’s not my strength, that kind of organizational atmosphere, I’m not good at it. The same goes for my shows. In retrospect, I should have written something on a piece of paper and said something like this…’

Raye admitted she ‘hasn’t slept’ since the Brits due to the amount of adrenaline coursing through her veins.

The songwriter opened up about how she has received ‘so many’ messages since her record-breaking night at the awards ceremony.

Raye received six gongs at the ceremony, a record previously held by Harry Styles (2023), Adele (2016) and Blur (1995), who all won four.

She said: ‘I have so many messages and I haven’t replied to any of them, there are so many! It’s just overwhelming in every sense of the word, in the best way.”

The star said she hasn’t received her awards yet, but said she plans to sleep with it on her pillow when she arrives at her house.

She joked: ‘I’m a single girl, I have room for six BRITs.’

Raye revealed how she celebrated her win and revealed that she treated herself to a fridge.

She explained, “I thought it was going to be a mini fridge, and it’s huge. It’s the little things, you know what I mean? I think if there’s something extraterrestrial going on, I want to be grounded as quickly as possible.”

Raye, who attended BRITs School, joked it was a “bloody shame” how she looked at her first ceremony but was then determined she would one day win.

She said: ‘It was a damn shame how bad I looked at my first BRITs, okay? It was a damn shame. However, growth. You know what I mean?

‘But yes, I remember my first BRITs; I remember my days at BRITs School like it was yesterday. You know, I was hungry and so determined that one day I was going to have one.”
