Rupert Murdoch’s granddaughter Charlotte, 23, says her marriage to rapper Luke Storey lasted just 12 hours before ‘our whole world fell apart’

Her star-studded Cotswolds wedding resembled a scene from hit TV drama Succession – especially when her media mogul grandfather Rupert Murdoch arrived by helicopter, wearing a striking white suit and red suede shoes.

Now Charlotte Freud – whose parents are Rupert’s TV director daughter Elisabeth and PR supremo Matthew Freud – has claimed her marriage to rapper Luke Storey was essentially over within hours.

She told The Mail on Sunday: ‘We had been married for 12 hours when our whole world fell apart. On the way to our honeymoon he relapsed. It wasn’t a good sign.’

Charlotte, now 23, met Luke – a self-confessed recovering drug and alcohol addict – when she was just 18 and he was 33.

He encouraged Charlotte to join Narcotics Anonymous to help end her addiction to ketamine.

They married in 2022 at St Mary’s Church in Westwell, Oxfordshire, with her grandfather Rupert flying in while he was in the middle of divorcing his fourth wife, Jerry Hall. Guests included actor Woody Harrelson and host Claudia Winkleman.

Charlotte said she quickly realized Luke was a “first husband kind of deal,” adding that theirs was a “show of a marriage.”

She said: ‘It felt like there were three people in the relationship: me and him and our recovery.

“When our recovery was strong, we were strong, and when it wasn’t, we fell apart. We had a great relationship when we were sober, but neither of us could stay sober.

“The wedding was so public and everyone loved our relationship.”

They divorced in September last year after just 14 months.

Charlotte now lives in Los Angeles with a new boyfriend and is preparing to launch a dating app for sober people called Club Pillar in the coming months.

She was inspired to become the face of the app after a short stint using celebrity dating app Raya, saying: ‘It can be isolating dating as a sober person, especially in Britain where the drinking culture is so widespread.

“I think the Club Pillar movement is a beautiful thing and I can’t wait to use the app.”

She has also written a musical adaptation for children of Charlie Mackesy’s bestseller The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse, which is being taught in schools across the country.

She admitted that she is also a fan of Succession, adding: “It’s absolutely right that it’s based on my family. I loved watching it.”

She claimed her mother inspired Sarah Snook’s character Shiv Roy, the power-hungry daughter of media baron Logan Roy, played by Brian Cox.

“I think my mother is very Shiv, which she doesn’t agree with,” she said. ‘I wish I had had the succession life. When I look at it, I say to my mother, “Where’s my helicopter?” For me it was the subway.

“I’ve probably spent more time with Logan Roy than my real grandfather. I’ll see him at Christmas. We don’t hang out with each other.’
