Ryan Gosling wears a sharp black suit as he joins the stunning Greta Gerwig at the 39th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Ryan Gosling wore a stylish suit as he attended the 39th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival with Greta Gerwig on Saturday.

The Hollywood actor, 43 – who recently reunited with his La La Land co-star Emma Stone at the Golden Globes – was honored with the Kirk Douglas Award at the event, which was held at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara.

The star stepped out on the red carpet wearing a black button-up that was partially undone at the top and tucked into the waist of a pair of pants.

He paired the monochrome look with a sleek jacket and threw on a pair of shiny black shoes for the finishing touch.

Gosling was soon joined by the Barbie director, 40, who turned heads in a sleeveless black dress with dazzling silver floral embellishments throughout.

The hem of the striking ensemble fell just inches above her ankles, easily revealing a pair of silver boots.

She chose not to add any striking jewelry, so that the dress is the centerpiece of the special evening.

Greta's hair was parted to the side and combed back so that no loose strands fell on her face.

Both she and Ryan crossed paths while at the location and the pair took a break for a quick photo session together.

During Saturday's festivities, the Drive actor received the 16th annual Kirk Douglas Award For Excellence In Film.

According to the festival website, the award is given 'to a lifetime contribution to cinema through their work in front of the camera, behind the camera, or both.'

Other previous recipients of the honor include Hugh Jackman, Michelle Yeoh, Martin Scorsese, Jane Fonda and also Harrison Ford.

The ceremony “also benefits the educational programs of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and was the most successful fundraiser in SBIFF history.”

Once inside the venue, both Gosling and Gerwig were spotted mingling with other attendees, stopping for a memorable photo with Steve Carell.

Ryan notably portrayed the character of Ken in the Barbie movie, which was released earlier last year in July.

While you're talking to W magazine earlier this month, the actor opened up about taking on the role, as well as his first impressions of the character.

'It was the title page of the script, which said Barbie and Ken, but 'and Ken' was crossed out. And the next impression was, this is the hardest part I'll ever play,” he admitted to the outlet.

'How do you approach playing a 70-year-old doll without a crotch? You can't do research into that.'

Ryan added: “There's no one to shadow, no documentaries to watch, no books written about Ken. You are on your own.'

His portrayal of Ken earned the star a Golden Globe nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

Gosling attended the star-studded ceremony last weekend and reunited with his co-stars, including Margot Robbie and America Ferrera.

He dressed for the occasion in a black suit consisting of trousers and a blazer with white trim. The star added a shirt underneath that also had a similar trim.

Ryan's role as Ken also earned him a SAG nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Critics' Choice Awards – which take place on Sunday, January 14, hosted by Chelsea Handler.

Barbie broke the record by receiving a whopping 18 critical acclaims for the event, including Best Picture, Best Director for Gerwig and also Best Actress for Margot Robbie.
