The worrying encounter took place near the Spratly Islands in the south China Sea, a flashpoint of tensions with land Chinathe Philippines and other countries claim to belong to them.

While the crew on board tried for decades to regularly deliver supplies to a Philippine warship stationed in the Second Thomas Shoal Reef, the Chinese Coast Guard intervened.

The chilling footage showed two huge Chinese coast guard ships swarming around the much smaller supply boat and blasting it from both sides with aggressive water cannons.

Several people were injured in the ambush and the ship suffered “structural damage” in the latest escalation in a series of increasingly tense encounters in the area.

Beijing’s massive coast guard ships also came face to face with a Philippine supply boat, brushing past the ship’s bow in a menacing display of intimidation.

Stunning images on board showed the crews separated only meters before the supply boat miraculously continued on its way.

China, also in competition with Taiwan and Vietnam over the resource-rich hotspot, says the grounding of the Philippine ship in the reef is illegal.

The Philippine military denounced China for “harassing, blocking, deploying water cannons and carrying out dangerous maneuvers.”

Manila said Xi’s forces “made yet another attempt to illegally obstruct or impede a routine resupply and rotation mission.”

Marines are stationed aboard the Philippine warship and China has repeatedly tried to prevent essential cargo from being brought to them.

Another Philippine supply boat came under fire but managed to reach their destination; the small naval forces stationed on the warship.

It was forced to turn around and head back after the damaging hit.

Beijing’s response later that day called their presence in the Second Thomas Shoal “illegal trespass”.

They also said the supply ships had not sought China’s “permission” to deliver raw materials to the stranded ship.

Manila’s long-stranded warship has been stationed in the shoals since the 1990s.

In a laughable takeaway, Beijing said: “The Chinese Coast Guard’s response was professional, restrained, reasonable and lawful,” the embassy added.

The Philippine government’s task force on territorial disputes was furious that China’s latest show of aggression “endangered the lives of our people and actually caused injury to the Filipinos.”
