SNL Recap: Sydney Sweeney Talks Glen Powell Affair While Making Cameo
Sydney Sweeney clarified rumors about herself during her Saturday evening live debut, including her relationship status with Glen Powell.
“While I’m here, I want to talk about some of the things I’ve seen about me online.” Sweeney, 26, said during her monologue on Saturday, March 2, denying viral rumors that she didn’t work at Universal Studios or hire a nutritionist from TikTok. “But I would say the craziest rumor I’ve ever seen was while I was shooting Everyone but you, I had an affair with my costar Glen Powell. That is obviously not true.”
Sweeney and Powell, 35, played the roles of Bea and Ben Everyone but you, a William Shakespeare-inspired romantic comedy that hit theaters in December 2023. Speculation swirled during production that the two actors were having an affair despite their public relationships. (Sweeney is engaged Jonathan Davinowhile Powell was dating a model Gigi Paris at the time.)
“My fiancé and I produced the film together and he was there for the entire shoot,” Sweeney added in her Saturday monologue. “I just want to let everyone know that he is the man of my dreams and that we are still together and stronger than ever.”
Sweeney noted that Davino, 38, “came here tonight to support her.” SNL debut.
“Can we cut it off?” Sweeney asked before the camera panned to Powell, who was sitting in the front row and presumably looking behind him at Davino. She exclaimed in response, “That’s not my fiancée! He’s in my dressing room!”
Sweeney and Powell further poked fun at the drama in one SNL sketch called ‘Loud Table’. The Euphoria star cast member Andreas Dismukesgirlfriend, who wanted to dump him during a dinner party.
“I cheated on you with my boss and I think we should break up,” Sweeney’s character admitted before Powell took the stage.
Saturday Night Live’s hosts and musical guests are typically the center of attention each week, but sometimes better-known faces steal the show. Powell strode into the fictional bar, called Sweeney “babycakes” and asked her to come with him. When the skit ended, they walked out of the room hand in hand.
Sweeney and Powell have shut down the dating rumors numerous times since Everyone but you press tour, which emphasizes that they are exclusively friends.
“I have been in a committed relationship for a long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age,” Sweeney said. Glamor Britain in December 2023, noting that she wasn’t deterred by the speculation. “What I’ve noticed about the idea of celebrity is that people really like to build someone up and then tear them down.”
