ELEVEN people were rushed to hospital in the early hours this morning after a massive fire broke out in a terraced house.

The inferno broke out just after midnight in London’s South Kensington, forcing more than a hundred people to evacuate.

Video footage showed flames leaping from the top floor of the home as crews tried to extinguish the fire.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the air as about 100 firefighters surrounded the scene.

Eleven people were then rushed to hospital due to possible smoke inhalation.

Crews were forced to pull residents to safety through their windows.

About 130 people had to be evacuated houses as the fire spread.

London The fire brigade said: “Fifteen fire engines and around a hundred firefighters were called to a fire at a terraced house converted into apartments at Emperor’s Gate in South Kensington.

“Half of the ground floor of the five-storey building was on fire.

“About 15 people left the building where the fire started before the brigade arrived. In total, approximately 130 residents were evacuated from the building where the fire started, as well as neighboring buildings.

“Two people were rescued by crews from a second floor flat using a 45 foot ladder, two people were rescued by crews from a fourth floor flat using a turntable ladder. One person was rescued from a flat on the first floor by crews using a short extension ladder.

“Around 11 people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.”

Station Commander Steve Collins attended the scene and said: “The fire spread from the ground floor to the top floor and roof of the property.

“Staff worked extremely hard to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.

“Road closures are in place and are likely to remain in place well into the morning peak hour. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

“However, there will be no impact on rail services and they will operate as normal.”

The brigade was called just after midnight and the fire was under control by 4.30am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
