The wanderer was a friend Brueckner47, when they lived near Praia da Luz in Portugal, around the time Maddie disappeared in 2007.

He is being called as a character witness and is expected to reveal what Brueckner was doing around the time of the rape of Irish holiday representative Hazel Behan in 2006.

Seyferth was a crucial witness in Brueckner’s 2019 conviction for the rape and torture of a pensioner in Portugal after discovering grim footage.

Seyferth and Brueckner’s ex-boyfriend Helge Busching ransacked the convicted rapist’s home in the Algarve, discovered a series of video tapes showing the monster’s abuse and brought them to the police.

But prosecutors are said to be privately nervous about how the heavy drinker’s credibility will hold up in court after cross-examination.

His account must also match Busching’s – with fears the defense could poke holes in both.

The credibility of their testimonies could be crucial in seeing Brueckner charged with Maddie.

Seyferth previously spoke to The Sun about Brueckner, calling him a “bad man” who was “easily capable of taking a small child.”

He said at the time: “I never liked him and he is a psychopath. He’s obsessed with little kids and I didn’t like that.

“He always had a young girlfriend with him and I think he could easily take a small child with him.”

“That’s why I think he might have something to do with Maddie. He broke in and saw her and because he likes young girls – he has a lot of beliefs – he took her away.

German prosecutors are nervous about the failure of a Madeleine case, which could see the suspect released within two years.

In 2007, Seyferth lived in a caravan next to Christian’s house, a few minutes’ drive from Praia da Luz.

He told The Sun in 2020 that he did not see pedophile and rapist Brueckner for months after Madeleine disappeared.

If convicted on his current charges, Brueckner faces 15 years behind bars, giving prosecutors a safety net for the Maddie case they want to pursue.

Brueckner was caught today when he appeared in the Braunschweig Regional Court, where he is charged with raping Irish holiday representative Hazel Behan at knifepoint after tying her to a table and beating her on camera.

He is also accused of tying a teenage girl to a post at the same resort where Maddie was snatched and forcing her to perform a sex act.

During a raid in Praia de Luz – in the years before Madeleine disappeared – Brueckner is said to have raped and whipped a woman as young as 80, filming the attacks on both victims.

The suspect also allegedly committed a sexual act on himself in the presence of a child on a swing and made threats to a prison guard.

He is also accused of grabbing a child’s wrist on a beach six miles from Praia just weeks before Maddie disappeared – and another charge of assaulting a prison guard.

He denies all charges and the trial continues.

He said the woman had written “kill the b*****d now” and “kill the devil”, referring to Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro.

Dr. Fülscher said the comment meant she was unfit to handle the case and could not be relied upon for his client.
