The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that states cannot prevent Donald Trump from running for another term, rejecting a challenge from Colorado that threatened to remove the former president from ballots across the country.

While the decision is not a surprise, it is the most important ruling regarding presidential elections since George W. Bush prevailed in Bush v. Gore in 2000.

The case was based on a constitutional provision, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which prohibits insurrectionists from holding office. All of the justices’ opinions focused on legal issues without taking a position on whether Trump committed an insurrection.

All nine justices said states could not bar candidates from running for president based on the provision, while five conservative justices ruled that Congress must act to give Section 3 force. Here are highlights from the ruling.

“I was very honored to have a vote of nine to none,” Trump said in an interview on a conservative radio show.

What’s next: The decision comes during a crucial week for the presidential race: Today is Super Tuesday, when many states hold their presidential primaries, and on Thursday President Biden will deliver the State of the Union address. In the coming months, the Supreme Court may rule on a host of other legal issues related to Trump.

“We are sending the message to all women: your body is yours, and no one has the right to control it on your behalf,” Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said before lawmakers voted 780-72 in favor of the amendment.

The amendment declares abortion a “guaranteed freedom,” meaning future governments will not be able to drastically change current laws that fund abortion for women who fund it up to 14 weeks into their pregnancy, according to France’s minister of health. Justice.

The decision to amend the Constitution was prompted in part by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which ended the constitutional right to abortion in America. But the move also reflects widespread support for abortion in France, and a successful campaign by a coalition of feminist activists and lawmakers from multiple parties.

But DNA evidence, found in teeth, bone fragments and the dirt of cave floors, shows that the Denisovans may have covered much more ground than the Neanderthals. Denisovans could thrive across thousands of miles and in diverse environments, displaying a versatility that rivaled ours.
