Homeland costars Claire Danes and Rupert Friend attended the same event in New York City on Tuesday night.

They were seen at the special screening of Sophie's Choice to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary, with the film's stars Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in attendance.

Claire, 44, arrived alone and Rupert, 42, was with his athlete wife Aimee Mullins, 48.

The actors played work partners and love interests on the hit spy series – she was bipolar CIA agent Carrie Mathison, and he was CIA agent and assassin Peter Quinn.

Danes started playing bipolar CIA agent Carrie in 2011. The eighth and final season of Homeland aired in 2020.

Constance Hall has apologized to the Australian Jewish community after receiving backlash over a satirical video criticizing the Israeli military.

The mummy blogger turned influencer who has more than 500,000 followers on social media has spoken out in its support for Palestine in the ongoing war in Gaza following the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel on October 7.

In the satirical video shared on December 10, titled “If the IDF were your brother,” Hall posed as an Israeli soldier and articulated the justifications she said Israel used to wage war in Gaza.

In one scene, Hall, who was about to take a bath, found her “IDF brother” in the bath and claimed that he was entitled to the bath “because he is the chosen one.”

Hall received criticism for the video, with many claiming the comment insulted Jewish people and their beliefs, with Italian-Australian writer Antonella Gambotto-Burke joining the pile.

The concept of the chosen people in Judaism is the belief that Jews, through descent from the ancient Israelites, have been chosen to be in covenant with God.

In a video shared on Instagram on Saturday, Hall apologized to the Jewish community for her comments.

“I deleted the video ‘if your brother or sister was the IDF’ and here are my reasons, along with my apologies to anyone who felt the video felt unsafe or discriminated against,” she captioned the post.

“I will be more careful in the future to ensure that my content only appeals to those who perpetrate and defend the current G. [genocide] word.

‘Love to everyone who, like me, wants the killings to stop now. I will always be with you no matter who you are.”

Hall deleted the video from Instagram, but at the time of writing the video was still available on her Facebook account.

The mother of seven said she stayed up until 2am reading hundreds of comments from her followers explaining why the video was offensive and thanking them for bringing it to her attention.

“Okay, so I have a moment of reflection and first of all, of course, thank you. thank you, thank you, thank you so much,” Hall said.

“The rationale and bringing it back to earth and pulling me out of my fucking downward spiral.

‘I thought about it as I lay there with tears streaming down my face. “I never wanted to hurt anyone…but I’m willing to look at my own actions.”

Hall then issued a heartfelt apology to the Jewish people who were hurt and offended by the comments in her video.

“I have come to the conclusion that if I were a faithful Jewish woman, I would be offended by the line in that video where I pretend to be the IDF and I say ‘because I am the chosen one,'” she said.

“Obviously I used that as an example of how the IDF is rationalizing the takeover of this country.

‘I didn’t mean to offend anyone’s religion. I certainly didn’t. I’m not a big fan of any religion, but I really respect other people’s rights to practice it.

“I take responsibility that I referred to something that was predominantly Jewish and that I made it about the IDF and to the people who were hurt by that, I am sorry.

“That’s me saying sorry and I will 100 percent delete the video.”

However, Hall said she stands by all her comments about the IDF and will continue to speak out against the war in Gaza.

“I still stand by everything I say about the IDF and I will always talk about it [genocide] that’s where the attention and focus should be,” Hall said.

“I will continue to support Palestine in a way that speaks only against the IDF and the Israeli government, and not against the Jewish people.”

Daily Mail Australia contacted Hall for comment.

Hall then turned her attention to comments written about her by Italian-Australian writer Antonella Gambotto-Burke.

Gambotto-Burke shared a clip of Hall’s video on Instagram and branded the influencer “one of Australia’s faces of hate,” adding that the situation in Gaza is a tragedy for everyone involved and was “no joke.”

In another brutal post on Friday, Gambotto-Burke said she didn’t care about Hall’s vocal support for Palestine, but attacked her claims about telling the truth.

“Do you want the truth?” she posted a screenshot of Hall’s story below calling out the social media boomers who trolled her.

She labeled Hall an “inarticulate, overweight single mother with bad hair, bad taste, bad tattoos, a brain-damaged, former/current ice cream abusing partner, and too many children.”

She said Hall was “looking for love and trying to make a living flogging poorly designed swimwear.”

The writer added that Hall’s followers would abandon her if she failed.to entertain them with delusions about your importance to the Palestinian cause and with unexamined gossip.”

“Your private life really wasn’t going the way you wanted, and you’re directing all these unsavory frustrations at Jews to make yourself feel better,” she wrote.

“You are not intelligent enough to understand the consequences of your words; You think that by playing the fool your bigotry can be turned into comedy, but that’s not funny.’

Hall said she thought about why she was so offended by Gambotto-Burke’s post and felt the comments about her children and husband were hurtful.

“I think it’s fair to protect your husband if he’s had a traumatic brain injury, which is the most vulnerable you’ll ever see anyone,” Hall said.

‘I had to be really protective of him. It was obvious that that would hurt… and it deserved to be mentioned.

Verdict: Compassionate and compelling

An uplifting true story, insofar as an account of a tragic plane crash and cannibalism can be considered uplifting, is movingly told in the Spanish-language film Society Of The Snow.

In October 1972, a Uruguayan Air Force plane, Flight 571, en route to Chile, carrying the Old Christians Club rugby team among its 40 passengers and five crew, crashed in the Andes.

Nearly half of those on board died instantly or shortly afterwards from their injuries. Others died later, but nearly ten weeks later the sixteen remaining survivors were finally rescued. To stay alive, they had eaten the body parts of their dead friends.

It is to his great credit that Spanish director JA Bayona presents this intense, moving story without any voyeurism, but with sensitivity and compassion.

But that doesn’t stop it from being poignant, just like his 2012 drama The Impossible, about a family caught up in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

That film starred Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and a young Tom Holland. This one is starless, at least not from a British perspective, but in some ways all the better for it.

I saw it at a preview screening attended by Bayona and one of the survivors, now in their seventies.

They both then spoke very movingly about a tragedy that has been powerfully transformed into a triumph of the human spirit. On what optimistic note: Happy New Year!

Comedies in which the elderly magically become young, or vice versa (Freaky Friday, Peggy Sue Got Married, Big), are practically a genre unto themselves. Arthur’s Whiskey (no certificate, 90 minutes, ***) is not a particularly good addition to the strain, but it is accompanied by an attractive energy and just enough humor to keep the audience laughing, if sometimes a little indulgently.

It’s the cast that makes us inclined to be generous: Diane Keaton, Patricia Hodge, Lulu, Hayley Mills, Bill Paterson, David Harewood and Boy George (as himself) is quite an ensemble. Hodge, Keaton and Lulu play Joan, Linda and Susan, three old friends of a certain age who discover that Joan’s late husband Arthur, an amateur inventor, found the elixir of youth just before taking off his clogs.

The Netflix drama Good Grief (no certificate, 100 minutes, **) marks Dan Levy’s feature debut as writer-director. Together with his father Eugene, he created and starred in the wonderful TV comedy Schitt’s Creek, so I had high expectations, which were unfortunately dashed early on.

It tells the story of Marc (Levy), whose wealthy husband Oliver (Luke Evans) suddenly dies, and who, in the depths of his grief, must then deal with the revelation that Oliver had an affair.

None of this is original and none of the characters are likable, a problem the film doesn’t overcome despite a decent cast including David Bradley, Celia Imrie and Ruth Negga.

Russia launched its most intense air campaign of the war today, raining down rockets on Ukrainian cities including Kiev.

The overnight attacks came days after Ukraine struck a Russian warship in the occupied Crimean port of Feodosia, in a major setback for the Russian navy.

In another video, posted by @peteypappi, who has 658,000 followers, two people are seen trying to eat the peppers but giving up halfway through.

Dr. Duane Mellor, a dietician at Aston University in Birmingham, warned that this trend could cause digestive problems and, in extreme cases, even increase the risk of cancer.

After eating something spicy, many will notice that their lips begin to tingle, a burning sensation on their tongue, and they begin to sweat due to the overwhelming heat.

But aside from the temporary burning sensation, eating large amounts of hot sauces and peppers, or extremely spicy varieties, can also damage your intestines.

One side effect is reflux – when stomach acid travels to the throat – according to Dr. Mellor.

He said: ‘If this continues for a long time it can lead to changes in our oesophagus and can increase the risk of cancer.’

This is because recurrent acid reflux can turn into gastroesophageal reflux disease, which increases the risk of esophageal cancer.

Dr. Mellor noted that a combination of how spicy a sauce is and whether it is eaten as part of a meal or alone will determine how bad the reflux symptoms are.

But eating extremely spicy foods can also cause nausea, vomiting, painful bowel movements and diarrhea.

People with intestinal disorders are at greatest risk of these side effects to their increased sensitivity in the gut, said Professor Tim Spector, an expert in epidemiology and gut health at Kings College London.and co-founder of ZOE.

While this is not usually serious, a 2016 case report in the Journal of Emergency Medicine detailed that this could lead to a tear in the esophagus.

It reported on an unidentified 47-year-old man from California, USA, who showed up at a hospital emergency department after vomiting and experiencing severe abdominal and chest pain following a ghost pepper eating contest.

Scans showed he had a 2.5cm tear in his esophagus due to the violent vomiting. He had to stay in the hospital for weeks and eat and drink through a tube.

Eating more spices than you can handle can also cause symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

One Iranian from 2013 studyResearch found that people who eat spicy foods about ten times a week are 92 percent more likely to develop IBS – which causes stomach cramps, bloating and diarrhea – compared to those who never eaten spicy foods.

The findings were based on responses from 4,763 adults. However, the results also showed that spicy foods were not associated with IBS rates in men.

In addition to online, chili pepper eating has skyrocketed during in-person competitions at food festivals.

They see how heat lovers compete against each other in an attempt to eat extremely spicy peppers as quickly as possible. These include the Foodies Festival chilli eating competition, which takes place in multiple locations across the UK each year, and the League of Fire competition, which organizes food and chilli festivals across the UK, Europe, US, New Zealand and Australia travels.

However, eating a normal amount will not cause any problems, says Professor Spector.

‘As with virtually any food, eating too much hot sauce can have negative effects. For most people, consuming a moderate amount will not cause any problems. But as a general rule, if a food is giving you severe stomach upset, you should stop taking it or at least reduce your dose.”

But as long as you don’t eat a handful of extremely spicy ghost peppers, eating spicy food can be good for you.

Hot sauces that are minimally processed or homemade may have health benefits, according to Professor Spector.

‘After all, chili peppers are a plant. They contain healthy plant chemicals called polyphenols, which help support your gut microbiome. And there is some evidence that eating peppers regularly can even extend your life,” he said.

A 2015 Chinese study found that those who consumed spicy foods had a 14 percent lower risk of dying prematurely.

Researchers looked at data from nearly 500,000 people in the country, aged between 30 and 79 at the start of the study, who were followed for about seven years.

In follow-up, scientists found that eating spicy foods was linked to a reduced risk of dying from cancer, as well as heart disease and racial disorders.

This remained the result when the analysis was adjusted for risky lifestyle factors, such as smoking and alcohol consumption.

But to ensure your hot sauce is healthy, it’s best to make it yourself and avoid ultra-processed jars full of “unpronounceable chemical names,” says Professor Spector.

He said: ‘As is the case with many foods these days, it is the other colourants, flavourings, emulsifiers and so on that are likely to affect your health in the long term if consumed in excess.

“If you’re looking for a hot sauce, it’s best to read the label and choose one with a shorter ingredient list and fewer unpronounceable chemical names.”
