Within moments, countless powerful dazzling laser lights beam into the sky, illuminating the entire aircraft in an eerie green glow.

The footage, captured last weekend on March 16 and 17, stunned social media users who criticized festival goers for their stupidity.

One person said: “I can’t believe these people’s massive lack of gray matter. It’s unbelievable how stupid they are.”

Another said: “It’s not funny and it’s illegal.”

A third blamed people who had traveled to the area rather than locals.

“The people of Tultepec don’t do this,” they said. “Planes fly over the area every day and this does not happen.

“Many people go to the fair from other places and cause disturbances.”

It is currently unclear whether police are investigating the video or whether the targeted airline has filed a complaint with air safety officials.

The annual International Pyrotechnics Festival celebrates the area’s role as the center of Mexico’s homegrown fireworks industry.

Up to 100,000 festival goers watch and take part in spectacular processions with huge fireworks displays.

The use of laser pointers against aircraft is banned in most countries of the world and can lead to prison sentences and heavy fines.

In 2016 a British Airways flight to London Heathrow was targeted by a laser beam during its final descent.

BA flight 759 from Bergen, Norwayfell victim to the laser attack as it prepared to land on the London airport.

However, it’s not just aircraft that suffer from laser attacks, with athletes often falling victim to sporting events.

At the 2022 World Cup, Security was stepped up to check for laser pointers ahead of England’s last 16 match against Senegal.

Both groups of fans had previously used lasers to distract opponents while penalties were being taken.

Months earlier, it was the turn of Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah and his Egyptian teammates were targeted by lasers during a crucial World Cup qualifier against the same opposition.

Every time the cameras got a close-up of one of the Egyptian players, green lights flashed across their faces.

The dangers of laser pointers

Despite their small size, laser pointers have an incredibly bright light that poses significant safety concerns.

Due to their easy accessibility, laser pointers can be purchased by anyone and are often pointed at people to distract or annoy people for fun.

On a human level, they can be blinding and seriously damage a person’s vision if aimed at the eyes.

However, in the wrong hands, they can even endanger lives.

That’s because of their impressively long range, meaning you don’t have to stand near anyone or anything to use it.

If it is aimed at someone driving a vehicle, it can easily distract them and obscure their vision, meaning they are putting themselves and others at risk.

When pointed at an aircraft at night, such as at a festival in Mexico, the lasers can blind and distract pilots at critical moments.

Increasingly strict laws have been passed to prohibit this.

Another disturbing and potentially dangerous misuse of laser pointers is their use when the dot can be mistaken for that of a laser gun sight.

You often see armed police officers drawing their weapons in such circumstances.
