Pippa Middleton recently moved from a £17 million mansion in Chelsea to a 30-room retreat in Berkshire with her husband, James Matthews.

But the Princess of Wales’s younger sister could one day be tempted to move to the Scottish highlands when her billionaire husband inherits his family’s Glen Affric estate.

James’ father David Matthews bought the property in 2018 along with the main house, Affric Lodge, set in 10,000 acres of a peninsula and lake of the same name.

Glen Affric is located in the southwest of the village of Cannich in the Scottish Highlands, about 15 miles west of Loch Ness.

Guests can stay in the main house, Affric Lodge, and the newly built Stable Cottage, in the grounds of the estate

David assumed the courtesy title of Laird of Glen Affric and promptly converted the estate into a luxury rental offering.

It’s unknown how much he bought it for, but given it costs £11,800 for a three-night stay for up to eight people, or £17,800 for a group of 16, we can only guess.

The main lodge has a total of eight bedrooms, as well as a whiskey room, a sitting room, a dining room and several living rooms.

Decorated with paintings of Highland landscapes by 19th-century artist Sir Edwin Landseer, the lodge retains traditional Victorian features such as turrets and fireplaces.

It was built between 1860 and 1872 using local pine and hardwoods and Caledonian granite.

Meanwhile, the charming and newly built Stable Cottage nearby is contemporary and colourful.

The lodge is also more widely known, and the late Queen’s grandmother, Mary, previously stayed at the lodge in the 1800s, while David Beckham also filmed an advertisement for its Haig Club whiskey there in 2014.

James’ brother, former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, even married his wife Vogue Williams at the estate in June 2018.

The estate’s website says Glen Affric is considered one of the most beautiful places in Scotland – and the photos seem to suggest that’s right.

Pippa’s and the Princess of Wales’s brother, James Middleton, keep it in the family and also host the estate.

James, 35, has regularly shared his thoughts and moments at Glen Affric Estate.

In recent years, he has shared images of himself with his French wife Alizee and their dogs on a paddleboard.

James posted the image with the caption, “I had tingles not from the cold but from how beautiful it was. Yes, this is Scotland in November!’

He then told his 243,000 followers, “It’s crazy how peaceful the planet can be, but at the same time how crazy it can be – make sure you bring some for you (and your dogs). Go outside, open a window, walk, breathe, meditate or even make an old-fashioned cup of tea!’

James also said he adopted a morning ritual of jumping into the icy lake to help himself feel alive.

“After a restless night, every part of my body woke up,” he said.

Pippa’s father-in-law David has held the title, the Laird of Glen Affric, since purchasing the property, and it will be inherited by James upon his father’s death, while Pippa will be known as Lady Glen Affric.
