The Weekend rocks a Tedros t-shirt from The Idol during a tour stop in Amsterdam…just days after DEFENDING his controversial series

The Weeknd continued to promote his new HBO series The Idol even while traveling the world.

The 33-year-old singer (born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) took to his Instagram story on Sunday afternoon and shared a snapshot of his last tour stop in Amsterdam.

The singer was seen opening a black leather jacket and revealing a black T-shirt featuring his character from The Idol – Tedros – in an Instagram Story post to his 60.9 million Instagram followers.

“@TheIdol Sundays in Amsterdam fuck you talkin about,” he said in the caption of his photo.

He also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the show, revealing that there are still 30 minutes left until the new episode debuts, which comes just days after he defended the show from the critical backlash.

The Weeknd took to Twitter on Wednesday and retweeted a fan who said: “I cried a lot this episode. I’ve never dealt with a character on a show more than Jocelyn. Her mental. Her mother dynamic. It’s creepy. The idol is REAL. And a lot of people just don’t get it.’

The Weeknd responded, “they’ll… I promise, give it time.” until then enjoy the show yourself,’ add a heart emoji.’

The Weeknd also brushed off the criticism in an interview with Variety — the same outlet where a recent headline called his acting ability “non-existent.”

The Weeknd dismissed the backlash as “highly anticipated,” citing Carrie director Brian De Palma and Basic Instinct director Paul Verhoeven as an “inspiration.”

He argued that ‘we’re playing with genres with this show, we’re doing exactly what we set out to do. And none of this is a surprise.’

Since its Cannes screening, the show has raked over the coals due to its portrayal of Jocelyn, who has been described at one point as a “human c**sock.”

In one episode, Jocelyn masturbates and hurts herself while mourning her dead mother and eventually falls into the carnal bondage of Tedros, The Weekend’s character.

In which British GK has called “the worst sex scene in history,” Jocelyn satisfies herself when Tedros instructs her to “wet that throat for me” and demands that she “stretch the hell out of that little pussy.”

The Weeknd co-created The Idol with former entertainment entrepreneur Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson, the writer behind Euphoria.

Sam, whose own history with drugs helped inspire Euphoria, is Lily-Rose’s fellow fake baby as the son of acclaimed director Barry Levinson.

At its Cannes premiere, The Idol received a five-minute standing ovation, but also provoked a string of blistering reactions from critics.

Gregory Ellwood of The Playlist called the second episode “Sexist, pseudo-porn,” while Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times dismissed the show as “a Pornhub homepage odyssey” starring “Lily-Rose Depp’s areolas,” and The Wrap called it “luxury sleaze.”

“Lots of strong reactions to #TheIdol from #Cannes2023 – ranging from ‘I hated it’ to ‘the TV version of clickbait’ to ‘I don’t want to see Lily-Rose Depp naked again,'” tweeted Variety reporter Ramin Setoodeh , author of the bestselling book Ladies Who Punch about the backstage drama at The View.
