The news is by your side.

These £24.99 H&M jeans look just as good as Gucci’s £1,000 pair, here are the denim designer dupes you should buy

If you like to have loose jeans, ie. not so tight, they can only be zipped closed when you lie down, this season’s styles should be right up your alley.

Relaxed jeans worn low on the hips were a must-have on the Gucci spring/summer runway; the new carrot style (so named because they are wider at the top and taper down) gives the thighs plenty of breathing room; and the universally flattering bootleg cut continues its resurgence.

But if you can’t afford Gucci’s £1,000 denim, the high streets – and the supermarkets – are full of designer dupes.

It’s not just loosely cut jeans that you’ll see more often. Jumpsuits have not disappeared and will be accompanied by fitted blazers, as seen at Valentino.

My tip? Shop the M&S trench coat, which sold out earlier this month but will be back in stock in April.

This exaggerated wide-leg style, which tapers at the ankle, is steadily gaining ground. Searches for this discount in the M&S report are up 38 percent compared to this time last year.

It feels more daytime, but doesn’t lend itself well to heels at night (except for your bootcut jeans), so stick to flats. And don’t forget to tuck in your sweater or shirt to create the illusion of a waspish waist.

While a leather trench coat can look a bit out of The Matrix, a denim version is much more versatile.

The belt accentuates your waist, creating an elegant silhouette, and this dark wash stands up to wear and tear so it will last for years to come.

Finally, forget everything you’ve heard about double denim being a fashion no-no: this trench coat will look great paired with ’70s-style flared jeans.

And breathe. There will be no limited circulation with this low-slung model.

Gucci’s version costs £1,000, but there are plenty of more budget-friendly choices on the high street too.

Stradivarius and H&M have great lookalikes, made from responsible cotton.

Opt for a flare – they look great with trainers, especially flats – and balance the baggy look with a fitted top.

Denim jackets do not have to be dressy and should only be considered casual wear.

This fitted blazer goes well with a work dress and on the weekend with high-waisted trousers.

It feels less preppy and more mature than the short, collared, front-pocket style you might already have.

The thing about the bootleg style is that it looks good with boots, which most of us will wear as long as the weather stays wet.

It’s also the most wearable model, whatever your size and whatever color you like. The bootcut is beautifully shaped without looking tight and flatters everyone with its slightly flared lower leg.

Avoid anything too extreme; my top tip is to go for a long hem, reaching to the floor, or just above, for that leggy look.

Charlie’s Angels will eat your heart out: the denim jumpsuit continues to reinvent itself.

This season, you can keep it fitted with a fitted top and long legs, which will work well with a wedge or platform sandal.

Pocket details at the front (as opposed to the side) prevent the hips from widening. Baggy overalls haven’t gone anywhere either and soft ecru shades and lighter pinks abound at Wyse and Hush. Go for ric-rac embellishments or shells if you like a feminine finish.
