TikTok travel vloggers and world travel gurus can be incredibly useful when you want to know more about a holiday destination and what to bring.

However, with such a wealth of information about what to take on a trip, it can be difficult to know what to really pack.

From light travelers – who only take the bare minimum – to those who simply can’t get to the airport without packing their entire wardrobe.

Now a TikToker has attacked other content creators on the platform, who they say are wrongly advising jetsetters to pack too much.

Backpacker Melissa appeared on her handle @thetravelteacherx in a clip with her friend, discussing what you don’t need to pack in bulk.

On her account @thetravelteacherx, a person named Melissa appeared in a clip with her friend, discussing what you don’t need to pack in bulk.

Her companion begins the video by saying that she regrets taking a large toiletry bag on holiday because she “only needs three things in the shower”, meaning it would take up unnecessary space in her suitcase.

She also labeled that item as “pointless” and continued by saying that carrying excessive sanitary products takes up valuable space in your luggage.

She noted that there was no need to carry ‘a million tampons’, adding that ‘everyone thinks they are so expensive but they only cost a few quid.

Clarifying her reasoning for this, Melissa said it was because she “brought so many tampons that they all got damaged and still had to buy new ones.”

Shoes were the next item Melissa insists you shouldn’t overpack. She said, ‘Don’t take too many shoes. You only need a maximum of two pairs.’

Her next item was one that will spark debate among many travelers, as Melissa lamented those packing different outfits.

The vlogger advised backpackers to “bring only the basics and not overpack” because “if you need stuff, you can buy it at your destination.”

As the clip concluded, they discussed how much sunscreen to bring, as they both agreed that you may need less than you think.

They said, ‘You don’t need crazy amounts. You will not use it’.

Melissa added: ‘I only used one bottle of sunscreen when I was in Bali, Thailand and Australia. Follow our advice and don’t listen to these TikTok gurus.’

Despite their advice, other users in the comments disagreed about the amounts of sunscreen and sanitary products that might be needed.

One replied: ‘I would recommend taking tampons for anyone going to Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam. I found it super difficult to get them there compared to Thailand/Bali!’.

A second replied: ‘Definitely disagree with the sunscreen. I brought nine bottles for two people and in two months we probably used up about three of them.”

A third added: ‘Half of everything you packed and half again. One thing I’ve learned is to pack what you feel comfortable in.”

A fourth wrote: ‘The more you travel the better you get at packing. The last time I went to Thailand I brought 14kg with me.’
