He will aim to go one step further than their European Championship efforts, when they were defeated by Italy on penalties in the 2021 Wembley final.

The debate over which team Southgate selects has already begun, with a number of question marks already hanging over some of his regulars.

Now Sherwood has told Sun Sport which pick he would choose, and he isn’t afraid to give a new face a chance.

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager, 45, chose former number 1 Jordan Pickford as target.

And regular full-backs Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw were also nominated for the 1995 Premier League title winner with Blackburn.

John Stones is also central to the defense, but his usual partner Harry Maguire fails to replace Sherwood.

Instead, he believes Everton’s 21-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite should be chosen in favor of Harry Maguire.

The Toffees star has been linked with a host of top clubs following his impressive form this season.

And after helping England U21s to success at the European Championships last summer, Sherwood is convinced he is the man to help the seniors achieve success this year.

Declan RIce would sit, but he would be joined in the middle three by attacking duo Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish.

However, Sherwood caused no surprises with his choice for the first three.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Man City’s Phil Foden would start either side of captain and England’s all-time top scorer Harry Kane.

The Three Lions start their Euro 2024 campaign on June 16 against Serbia.

Four days later they take on Denmark before concluding their group matches with a match against Slovenia on June 25.
