TLC’s Chilli becomes a grandmother at 53 after son welcomes child
TLC singer Rozonda “Chili” Thomas is officially a grandmother after her son, Tron Austinannounced the arrival of his first child with wife Jeong Ah Wang.
“On this day March 2, 2024 at 1:59 PM (6,173 LBS/2.8 kg), an angel from heaven was born, our beautiful daughter LUA婁娥,” the couple said via a joint statement on Saturday, March 2 Instagram post. “We are officially parents!!”
In the announcement, the new parents shared a selfie of their new family of three, along with a photo of their little one’s feet.
They also shared a glimpse into their daughter’s birth, explaining that baby Lua arrived four days before her due date.

“She was scheduled for March 6 on a Wednesday, but no, she wanted to come earlier!” Austin, 26, said. “This morning my wife’s water broke at 7am and we immediately packed up as quickly as possible and headed to the hospital, which by the way is an hour and thirty minute drive from where we are. She went for an emergency C-section at 1 p.m. Our nerves were high and our anxiety was through the roof, but despite it all she pulled through and gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl!!
The new father said he was “extremely proud” of his wife’s “courage and courage” as she adjusted to their baby’s unexpected arrival date.
“Forever grateful to be able to say that we have officially started our family!” Austin continued. “This is a dream come true. We started dating on September 22, 2018. Fast forward almost 6 years later, we are married and have our first child. The journey of life has now truly begun!!! #firstborn #yearofthedragon #daughter #newparents.”
In September 2023, both Austin and Wang first announced they were expecting a girl. While confirming the news on social media, the couple gave a glimpse into their IVF journey amid a long battle with infertility.
“2 HSG procedures, 1 hysteroscopy, removal of both fallopian tubes and scar tissue from hernia and appendicitis operations, 1 egg puncture, 1 miscarriage,” the pair wrote via Instagram at the time. “And stayed strong the whole time! #IVF has tested and blessed us over a year and a half journey. We will be the best parents to our little one and we can’t wait for her to get here.”
While Chilli, 53, has yet to publicly comment on her new status as a grandma, the TLC singer previously gave a glimpse into the strong bond she has with her son, whom she shares with ex DallasAustin.
To mark Austin’s birthday in June 2023, Chilli shared a throwback photo when her only child was just a baby.
‘Happiest birthday, my young king,’ she wrote. “I love you!!! I am so blessed to be your mother.”
Chilli may be a grandmother now, but plans to have another child in the future have been the subject of discussion with her current boyfriend. Matthew Laurensbut the actor has made it clear that he doesn’t want to put any pressure on his partner.
“She’s an amazing person,” Lawrence, 44, said E! News in an interview in March 2023. “She is already a mother, she has a wonderful son. I respect so much the way she raised him. She would be a great mother again, and I would be incredibly lucky, but that’s the future.”
