‘Trade woman’ who gave up her career as an optician to become a housewife and ‘serve’ her husband insists it is her ‘DUTY’ as a woman to do ALL the cooking and cleaning – as she slams critics who say that she is ‘oppressed’ and ‘lazy’

A traditional woman has revealed how she gave up her career as an optician to stay at home and ‘serve’ her husband by cooking and cleaning for him – while fending off trolls’ criticism that she is ‘oppressed’ shakes off.

Mikayla Herrmann, from Oklahoma, spends hours every day cooking, cleaning and caring for the farm animals, while husband Samuel Herrmann, 31, works as the boss of a blacksmith machinery company.

The 26-year-old housewife gave up her role as an optician in a big city to move to the countryside and became a full-time housewife after getting married five years ago.

Mikayla is the sixth generation of stay-at-home women in her family.

The couple met at a church event in 2017 and hit it off ‘instantly’, before getting engaged in May 2018 and getting married just three months later.

Devoted Mikayla admits she loves the satisfaction of serving her husband meals made from home-grown vegetables, butchered meat from their farm and bread made with flour milled at home.

But Mikayla says she often receives comments on Instagram from strangers labeling her as “oppressed” and “lazy,” but says she has chosen to dedicate her life to being a housewife.

“I always looked forward to meeting my husband and becoming a housewife because that’s what I’ve always seen women in my life do and what I’ve always wanted to do,” says Mikayla.

‘My mother and [my husband’s] mother did the same, our grandparents did the same. We are probably the fifth or sixth generation of housewives.

‘We always knew that once we got married [my husband] would be the breadwinner for me and I would be the stay-at-home wife and take care of everything around the house.”

Mikayla’s ‘typical day’ revolves around getting up ‘fairly early’ and taking care of the farm and their animals.

She explains: ‘In the spring and summer I have to leave very early, arrange everything, milk our goats, hay the animals and work in the garden.

“I also try to cook everything from home, so it takes quite a while to prepare each meal.”

Mikayla continued, “My husband comes home and he has breakfast here, he has lunch here and he comes home for dinner, so I have all these different meals that I cook from scratch.

“It usually takes him an hour or more to get home so he’s ready for when he gets home.

“I definitely feel that it is my duty to serve my husband and that he is the breadwinner of my home.

“But he’s such a nice person that he’ll never be frustrated if I’m having a bad day and I can’t get food on the table when he walks through the door.

“I try to do that as much as possible because I feel like it’s my job as his wife to make sure he comes home to a nice house that’s been cleaned.”

The content creator documents her life as a housewife on social media, where she promotes homemaking to other women, but says she often receives “hateful” comments.

‘Someone had said on one of my videos that I was a ‘tradwife’ and I had to Google it because I didn’t know if this was a bad thing or a good thing.

‘I’m definitely a trad woman. Our values ​​are very traditional and I can relate to almost every video of traditional things I saw.

“I love it because I get to promote homemaking to other women who may not have multi-generational families, but who are also homemakers.

“They don’t really have anyone that they can relate to and I enjoy being that person for them because it’s something that I always grew up knowing that I want to do.

‘I have received some hateful comments on my social media about being a housewife.

‘It’s usually just comments about being lazy and sitting at home and letting my husband take care of everything and not doing anything here that’s satisfying.

“But this is honestly the most fulfilled I’ve ever felt because it’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do.

‘People think I’m ‘oppressed’, but that’s absolutely not the case. I chose to have this job. My husband does not force me to serve him in any way.”

Mikayla and Samuel do not have children, but hope to expand their family in the future – and they plan to have a home birth and homeschool their children.

‘We don’t have any children yet. That is something we have been praying for for several years and we hope that God will bless us with children soon,” Mikayla shared.

‘I absolutely can’t wait to become a mother. I think it will be so great to instill these values ​​in my kids and help with some things on the farm.

“We will most likely be homeschooling and doing a lot of the traditional homework, homeschooling and homesteading type things and hopefully giving birth at home as well.”
