On that occasion, the ball failed to hit the stumps and Labuschagne survived, but Bairstow was caught napping and he had to make the long walk back to the pavilion.
London: There was much howling and howling from the England fans after Jonny Bairstow was brutally stunned by Alex Carey on the final day of the Lord’s Test on Sunday. Most thought it was a game-changing moment, with fans going so far as to call the Australian team ‘cheats’. But footage from a few days ago during the same test shows Bairstow trying to do the same thing that was done to him. Bairstow was looking to catch Marnus Labuschagne near his crease. On that occasion, the ball failed to hit the stumps and Labuschagne survived, but Bairstow was caught napping and he had to make the long walk back to the pavilion.
Here’s the clip that’s going viral:

“I think Carey saw it a few balls before, there was no break, he catches it and throws it straight to the stumps. I thought it was perfectly fair game. That’s the rule, some people might disagree, but just like yesterday, the rule is there and that’s how I saw it,” Cummins said after the game while defending Carey’s performance.
