Rio Ferdinand invited some of his teammates to his restaurant, where they enjoyed a performance by rock band Stereophonics.

The former centre-back visited his old home base of Carrington this week, where he reflected on the celebrations with ex-teammates Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher, who is now the technical director at United.

Ferdinand revealed that the Stereophonics were “brilliant” before Fletcher reminded him how the evening ended.

Fletcher said: “Wazza always thought he could be a lead singer, didn’t he? Remember the night he got booed and lost his head?”

Rooney was asked about his sing-along when he appeared as a pundit on TNT Sports for United’s match with Everton.

The former United striker dismissed it as a joke on a night out, before Ferdinand intervened and claimed he could “hit the notes”.

Wazza replied: “Some, not all.”

Rooney, 38, is no stranger to taking part in a sing-song and once joined Phil Jones in a rendition of Red Red Wine at Chris Smalling’s wedding.

He was previously seen on Sky Sports and made his debut for TNT Sports on Saturday together with Ferdinand.
