Who was Sarah Everard and what was her cause of death?

SARAH EVERARD was murdered in 2021 by former Met police officer Wayne Couzens.

The young woman was 33 years old when she disappeared while on her way home from a friend’s house in South London, led to a huge search to find her.

Who was Sarah Everard?

Sara Everard was a 33-year-old market manager living in Brixton, London.

Originally from Yorkshe achieved a 2:1 for her geography degree Durham University.

Sarah then moved to the capital for work about twelve years before her death.

Sarah was one of three children and has been described as an ‘exceptional friend’ who would drop everything for her friends.

Her brother and sister live in London.

Sarah’s father Jeremy is a professor of electronics at York University and her mother Sue is one charity worker.

In February 2024 Sarah’s family never-before-seen photos released from her for a new one documentary.

One photo shows her graduating from Durham University in the summer from 2008, while another sees Sarah poolside at Brockwell Lido, near where she lived in Brixton.

The photos have been released as part of a BBC documentary which will air just days after the three-year anniversary of Sarah’s murder.

Shortly after Sara’s death her family paid tributee to their “smart and beautiful daughter and sister”.

In a statement they said: “Sarah was smart and beautiful – a wonderful daughter and sister.

“She was kind and thoughtful, caring and trustworthy. She always put others first and had a great sense of humor.

‘She was strong and principled and a shining example to us all.

“We are very proud of her and she brought so much joy to our lives.”

What happened to Sarah Everard?

In March 2021, Sarah disappeared after leaving a friend’s house in Clapham, South London.

Detectives are investigating her disappearance accused a serving Met Police officer in his 40s – later identified as Wayne Couzens.

A week after she disappeared from Sarah’s house body was discovered in a forest in Ashford, Kent.

The post-mortem results showed that Sarah died of neck compression and that she had been raped.

When did Sarah Everard go missing?

Sarah went missing on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, after leaving her friend’s house around 9 p.m.

She started on the way home and spent 15 minutes on the phone with her boyfriend as she walked.

She was captured on CCTV at 9.30pm.

Sarah’s boyfriend reported her missing on March 4.

A huge search was launched and her remains were discovered in Kent nine days later.

At Couzen’s sentencing, it was revealed that the former officer had used his arrest warrant to lure Sarah into his car.

He claimed he was on a ‘Covid patrol’ and used lockdown laws to stage her false arrest.

Sarah was then driven 80 miles from London to Kent, where her body was later found.

She was kind and attentive, caring and reliable. She always put others first and had a great sense of humor.

Who is Sarah Everard killer Wayne Couzens?

Couzens is a former Met Police officer.

He pleaded guilty until Sarah’s murder in September 2021, after she had previously done so admitted that she had been kidnapped and raped.

He was given a life sentence for his crimes, making him the first British officer ever to receive this sentence – the harshest a judge can impose.

Couzens does It is unlikely he will ever be granted parole and that has been told he will die in prison.

After receiving his life sentence Couzens was handed over later another 19 months jail after pleading guilty to three indecent exposure offences.

One incident occurred in November 2020 and saw Couzens, who was on duty at the time, step out of a wooded area near his hometown of Deal and perform a sexual act on oneself while a woman cycled by.

The other two took place on a McDonald’s in Knows and saw Couzens pulling down his pants while paying for his food.

The Angiolini Inquiry’s landmark report, released in February 2024, revealed that Couzens had also tried to kidnap a woman with a knife and sexually assaulted a young girl before killing Sarah.

He too, as revealed in Fileraped two women but went unnoticed by at least three police forces and the attacks were only discovered when the complainants came forward following his arrest for Sarah’s murder.
