Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep And Emily Blunt had a seminal moment at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, almost two decades after starring in The devil wears Prada.
The costars reunited at the ceremony on Saturday, February 24 – which took place at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles – to present together on stage.
Streep, 74, was the first to take the stage to present the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, but she worried the audience when she walked straight into the microphone.
“Two things: I forgot my glasses and the envelope,” joked Streep, wearing a crimson red Prada dress, before Blunt and Hathaway, both 41, walked on stage with Blunt in hand and Hathaway wearing Streep’s glasses .
Blunt and Hathaway then began recreating all of Streep’s films devil wears Prada lines.
“I don’t think I look like Miranda,” Streep interrupted before Hathaway added, “No, no wasn’t a question.”
Blunt also paid tribute to the film’s title in a red dress. Hathaway, meanwhile, opted for an archive Versace dress in a cerulean shade – with a belt. Of course, Streep’s character delivered an iconic monologue in the film explaining the popularity of cerulean in the fashion industry after Hathaway’s Andie couldn’t tell the difference between two belts in that color.
“It’s been incredible to see how it’s grown over the decades, and so Meryl was the one who said, ‘Do you think you can make it to the SAG Awards?’ I was like, ‘I’ll do anything to be there, don’t do that [worry.] Thank you,” Hathaway said E! News’ Laverne Cox on the red carpet. “That is how it works.”
Blunt and Streep were both nominated at the awards ceremony. Blunt received awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for her role in Oppenheimerwhile Streep along with the cast were on hand for an outstanding ensemble performance in a comedy series Only murders in the building.
The trio portrayed colleagues for a fashion magazine The devil wears Pradawhich was released in June 2006. In the film, Hathaway’s Andy and Blunt’s Emily worked as assistants for the publication’s difficult editor, Miranda Priestly, played by Streep, who was earning a SAG Award nomination at the time.
The castmates have remained close in the years since The devil wears Prada became a hit, with Hathaway and Blunt previously opening up about their friendship in December 2023.
“This is so embarrassing because I remember every second of the first time I met you,” Hathaway told Blunt during their conversation for Variety‘Actors on Actors’ series. ‘I love you so much more than you love me. It is well. It is well.”
Although Blunt had difficulty remembering when the two first crossed paths, she left a lasting first impression on Hathaway. “I remember walking into the room, turning around and running into you. In my head – I immediately thought – I thought, ‘What a movie star!’” Hathaway said. “You were shedding stardust.”
The duo went for coffee before starting the film and immediately formed an easy bond. “I was so green when I got into that situation. And you were like the warmest hug,” Blunt said. “Even though you were a huge movie star at the time, you treated me like a complete equal. You are one of the people I have known the longest. We have known each other for eighteen years.”
As their characters clashed on screen, Hathaway and Blunt became fast friends. “It was the wildest thing there was. We just had a joy bomb with that movie,” Blunt shared. “I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to be what it became. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life.”
Hathaway added: “I was so grateful for your gift of personality. But also your Britishness. I discovered that the more nervous you get, the funnier you are.”
