Parveen Kaur Sahota (@parvsahota) went bald before discovering a method to regrow her hair.

She shared one TikTok video of her using a dermaroller on her scalp, which went viral in a month with over 4.3 million viewers.

A high quality Dermaroller titanium can be purchased on Amazon for $9.97.

While demonstrating the trick, she explained in a caption that she rolls derma rollers on a dry, clean scalp in different directions twice a week with light pressure.

After the head massage, she said she applied hair oil all over.

At the end of the video, she showed progress photos from January 10 and January 28, showing noticeable hair growth in areas where she was previously bald.

The practice caught the attention of Kimberley Medd, Clinic Lead at skincare company Face the Future.

“A derma roller is used on the skin to aid in rejuvenation, reduce fine lines and smooth skin texture, reduce pigmentation, increase skin firmness and to support the minimization of acne scars,” she said.

She shed some light on the pros and cons of using the at-home beauty tool on your scalp.

Kimberley said derma rollers can be used on your skin, scalp and beard, as an alternative to microneedling on the scalp in the clinic.

It can help stimulate sebum and collagen production, circulation and cell turnover, which benefits your skin care and hair without causing pain.

“Other benefits are that it is affordable and easy to use, can help tackle hair loss and increase hair density,” she added.

Failure to clean your dermaroller can be a disadvantage, which can lead to irritation and increased skin sensitivity.

Additionally, using it too aggressively “can cause discomfort and further stress the skin.”

Parveen derma rolled her scalp twice a week, and Kimberley agreed that every two to three days is “plenty of time to help stimulate the hair follicles.”

“More specifically, people with fine, thin hair will be able to see the benefits,” she added.

“It is most effective for the early stages of hair loss and less so for people who experience late stages of hair loss or total baldness.”

Kimberley also explained how skin and hair health are both linked.

“Keratinocytes are found in our hair, skin and nails, a type of protein that helps create a protective barrier, so the support needed for hair and skin is often the same,” she said.

“Ingredients such as antioxidants, peptides, hyaluronic acid, AHAs and vitamin C can be found in both skin and hair health products.”

Failure to maintain good hair health can have serious consequences for your skin.

According to Kimberley, if you have a dirty scalp, the dirt can transfer and build up on the skin, causing clogged pores and blemishes.
