I've been making my own chapstick for years – it's super simple with five ingredients
A DIY enthusiast sick of the addictive chemicals in mass-produced lip balm has revealed her tips for making your own.
The professional makes a dozen tubes of moisturizer at once.

TikToker Katie Krejci (@thehomesteadingRD) is a registered dietitian with a passion for real food and real ingredients.
In one video, Katie explained why you should make your own chapstick at home.
“Have you noticed that the more you use chapstick, the more addicted you become to it?” she asked.
“That's because most store-bought chapsticks are LOADED with inflammatory and irritating ingredients,” Katie wrote.
“Instead of soothing and healing your lips, they just make things worse,” she continued.
“I started making my own chapstick many years ago and I will never go back! Plus, it saves SO much money,” Katie finished.
To make the product you will need two tablespoons of beeswax, two tablespoons of shea butter, two tablespoons of coconut oil and a quarter teaspoon of oil.
You can also add five drops of your favorite essential oil.

To combine everything, Katie boils water in a pot and adds a double boiler.
Melt the beeswax slowly and then add the coconut oil and shea butter until it melts.
Once it has combined into a liquid, add the essential oils.
The penultimate step is pouring the mixture into the tubes. As a tip, Katie uses a double boiler with a spout.
Let the chapsticks cool and then cover them with lids.
