However, one savvy Tiktok user has revealed a foolproof way to get a trolley without having to dig around for change in your pocket or car.
Originally uploaded by @nogmirtedoenthe influencer showed her followers how to use a simple keychain instead of a coin to get a cart.
Just as you would do with a €1 coin, the content creator simply inserted the tag into the coin slot before unlocking her shopping cart at the supermarket.
Now might be the time to attach one of these colorful key chains to your car keys, especially after seeing how useful they can be.
Even if you don't have one in a drawer, you can buy a multipack of 20 on Amazon for just £2.99 – meaning your family will never have to find change again.
Unsurprisingly, her video has gone viral with more than 12 million people watching the nifty shopping hack on the social media app.
Unfortunately, not everyone was impressed with this handy shopping tip and some even wondered if it was a hack.
One person emphatically wrote: “So you came up with a 'life hack' where you saved a TOTAL of 25 cents because you could reuse the same coin. Congratulations.”
Another added: “Are people really so cheap that they literally take EVERYTHING except a quarter, which they get back when they return the cart???”
Fortunately, others defended the young woman, arguing that the hack was about convenience and not money.
“It's not that she's worried about saving the quarter,” a third user explained, adding: “…sometimes we forget the quarter, can't find it or just don't have one at the moment .”
If you find yourself without change or your trusty key fob, there are other easy ways to unlock the trolley.
Instead of rummaging through your car door, you can simply use a round Yale key and insert it into the coin slot.
However, before you start your weekly shopping, remember to take out your key and put it in a safe place.
Accordingly to Tiktok influencer @the_slimming_foodie, she had to find her again steps via Aldi after her house key slipped out while doing her weekly shopping.
Although she found it again, it's important to remember that all hacks have their shortcomings.
