Her mattress cleaning routine, which costs just 20 cents to perform, requires minimal effort.

She mixes baking soda, also called baking soda, with ten drops of essential oil before sprinkling it on her mattresses.

Corinne lets the powdery solution sit for an hour before vacuuming it up.

The thought process behind the hack is that the baking soda will absorb any moisture and odors lurking in the fibers of your mattress.

The essential oils create an aroma that continues to circulate through the room for a few days.

According to Corinne, the baking soda from the sofa “deodorizes” your mattress, while vacuuming picks up any crumbs and dust.

Sophie Hinchcliffe, or Mrs Hinch as we know her, popularized the hack on Instagram in 2022.

After taking down the bed, she shared a video of herself sprinkling baking soda on her mattress and leaving it on for an hour, just like Corinne does.

She then vacuumed up the powder with a handheld vacuum cleaner on the cold setting.

The hack is especially useful for cleaning up any mattress accidents, such as your child’s bedwetting or a spilled drink.

Sweat, stains, dirt and grime build up on your mattress, so making sure it’s fresh and clean is a must for a good night’s sleep.

“Mattresses can harbor dust mites, dead skin cells, dirt and other debris, which means they need to be cleaned regularly,” say the professionals at Architectural summary.

“Especially if you suffer from allergies, have pets, or are just an avid midnight snacker.”

How often should I clean my mattress?

You may be shocked to hear it, but experts recommend deep cleaning your mattress every few months.

If this doesn’t fit into your busy schedule, try to do it at least three times a year.

Even vacuuming the mattress every few times you change your bedding should help keep it clean.

Any spills or stains should be disinfected and removed with suitable products.
