Cynthia Nixon says chances are ‘very, very slim’ Kim Cattrall would return to And Just Like That

Fans who were excited about Kim Cattrall’s cameo in the season 2 finale of And Just Like That… shouldn’t hold their breath expecting her to return for a bigger role in a possible third season.

Last month, it was reported that Cattrall will reprise her role as Samantha Jones with a cameo in the season 2 finale, after it was explained in the series premiere that Samantha had moved to London.

This comes years after Cattrall said in 2016 that she was done playing Samantha after she didn’t approve the script for a proposed third Sex and the City film.

When And Just Like That… came together, it happened without her co-stars or creator Michael Patrick King even approaching Cattrall about returning, but after HBO’s Casey Bloys approached her about returning, she finally said yes.

While fans won’t get to see the cameo until the season 2 finale in August, Nixon revealed on Thursday’s episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live that fans probably won’t see Cattrall return in future seasons if HBO streaming service Max ordered them. . .

Nixon was asked by a fan writing in WWHL, “Cynthia, with Kim making a small cameo this season, what do you think the chances are of her playing a bigger role in the third season?”

“I think very, very small. It was a cameo, I think it was a special treat for the 25th anniversary,” Nixon said.

She added, “we tried so hard to keep it quiet. We’re really sorry it came out. It would have been so much fun if you were watching the episode and she just popped up.

Variety’s original report revealed that Cattrall shot her one scene on March 22 in New York City and did not interact with King’s cast at all.

Towards the end of the first season, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw contacts Cattrall’s Jones via text, and in the Season 1 finale, they make plans to reconcile in person.

Cattrall recently appeared on The View where she revealed the conditions she had for her return.

“It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I said, “Hmm…,” Cattrall said.

“Let me get creative and one of those things was to get (costume designer) Pat Field back because I thought if I came back I had to come back with that Samantha style I gotta push it and we did that ,’ she added.

Sarah Jessica Parker also spoke to the Daily Mail about the highly anticipated cameo earlier this month.

“We thought really hard about the ways we, you know, approached characters that weren’t there, the ways we invited actors back and it was, you know, really fun and exciting and definitely nostalgic. but I think more than that, it’s been a lot of joy.’

Cohen also recalled Nixon’s 2018 campaign for governor of New York and wondered if she would ever consider running for mayor of New York City.

‘No, don’t be afraid. But I think we should run someone against the current mayor. Not me, someone,” she said diplomatically.

She also opened up about first reading for the role of Carrie Bradshaw for the original Sex and the City series.

“I mean, you know, when I first read the script, they asked me to read for Carrie. And they were, like, yeah, not that much,” she said.

“But then I thought there was a bunch of women in it because they used to be the stories Carrie would follow, too. You know what I mean?’ added Nixon.

“There must be a woman there I can play, so then I came back and read to Miranda,” she said.

When asked about a storyline from the original show that was cut that she wished she stayed in, Nixon said there was a scene with an early boyfriend that she wished she stayed on.

“You know, Miranda dated a really hot detective. She was really intimidated and thought she was out of his reach. So she got wildly drunk. They didn’t cut that part, but they cut the scene where she got really drunk and threw up on him,” Nixon said.

When asked which of Carrie’s boyfriends were her favorite, she said, “Well, I like Aidan, but I do, I really like Berger, too.”

New episodes of And Just Like That… debut Thursday at noon on streaming service Max.
