A release date for the dark fantasy film Damsel has finally been announced by Netflix.

Millie Bobby Brown, 19, stars as Princess Elodie in the film, which will hit the streaming platform on March 8, 2024.

Damsel was supposed to be released in October 2023, but was postponed due to production delays caused not only by the actors’ work stoppage, but also by the recently settled writers’ strike.

As for the plot, after agreeing to marry a handsome prince, Elodie discovers that the arranged marriage is actually more of a sacrifice by the royal family.

She is thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon and must rely on her wits and will to survive.

A new teaser key art was also released on Wednesday, as well as the release date, which was a creepy shot of her eye and in the reflection you can see a dangerous dragon circling.

Another new shot shows her battered and bruised as she walks through the cave.

The trailer was released last month and was set to Timbre Timbre’s 2014 song Run From Me.

It starts with Elodie running through the woods in a glamorous gold dress that is clearly not meant for running.

She crawls through the woods, as we hear guttural sounds of a nearby beast, as we see its tail waving by.

Elodie is seen crawling through a dark tunnel with only a lighted medallion to guide her way.

She is later seen tearing pieces of fabric from her dress as she climbs into a treacherous cave, only to find an opening hundreds of feet above the earth.

“Welcome Princess,” says an ominous female voice, as we then get a glimpse of the royal family, including Queen Isabelle (Robin Wright), her royal husband (Ray Winstone) and Prince Henry (Nick Robinson).

Isabelle says, “It has been our job for generations to protect our people,” as we see several citizens, all wearing gold masks to hide their faces.

Isabelle continues, “So tonight you will join a long line of women who helped build this kingdom.”

When Elodie enters a cave, he sees the names of several of these women, all etched into the walls of this cave.

The trailer also offers a look at the unspecified character of Shohreh Aghdashloo, with Isabelle adding, “The price is expensive,” as we see Elodie fight for her life.

“…but so is the reward,” Isabelle concludes, as a fierce Elodie picks up her sword and prepares for battle as the trailer comes to a close.

The director is Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Brown will also return for a third Enola Holmes film on Netflix, where she plays the role sister of detective Sherlock Holmes, played by Henry Cavill.

The action franchise follows a smart and resourceful teenage girl who wants to ignore Victorian society and solve her own affairs.

Netflix film head Scott Stuber told the outlet, “The Holmes IP is strangely elastic.”
