Although Mike and Katie often keep their relationship private, their love story made headlines in November 2023 Al Michaels revealed on air how they met.
While report During the Dolphins’ NFL game against the New York Jets, Michaels explained that he asked Mike for a story about his time as running backs coach for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.
After the Mountain Lions’ big win in Nebraska, they went to a nightclub to celebrate.
“One of the running backs [Mike] coaches dance with a girl and Mike McDaniel says, ‘Listen, you’re not dancing with her anymore or you’re not playing with this team next year,'” Mike McDaniel recalled during the NFL broadcast on Amazon Prime.
The athlete complied to save his job, just in time for Mike to swoop in and dance with Katie himself.

October 2010
According to Mike McDaniel was in love with Katie from the moment he saw her at a nightclub, even though one of his team members was also interested.
June 2014
They married four years later in South Oroville, California.
“Thank you to all our family and friends who were able to join in the celebration of Katie and Michael’s special day!” Katie’s mother, Kristy Hemstalkwrote via Facebook at the time. “What a great wedding weekend.”
Later that year, Mike became the wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns after previously working with the Washington Commanders. In 2017, he moved to the San Francisco 49ers.
2020
During Mike’s role as run coordinator for the 49ers, Katie found out she was pregnant with their first child. Daughter Alya June was born in 2020.
February 2022
Mike was announced as head coach for the Dolphins and Katie and Alya stepped out upon his debut press conference.
“You are a miracle and I can’t wait to see what you grow into,” Mike said of his daughter.
November 2022
Mike gave Sports illustrated insight into his family life prior to his first bye week with the Dolphins.
“I am a leader by example. I’m gonna show these guys how to rest my ass, and then if I don’t sleep, I’ll be daddy and mane,” he joked. “I’ll take some honey doses. I’ll do my chores because I don’t want to be in the doghouse. At the end of the week I might be able to bypass a few of those honey doses just knowing there won’t be any consequences because I’m back to work.But until then, I’m fine.”
Earlier that month, Mike wore custom sneakers while attending a Dolphins game. The kicks featured a painted portrait of Mike and his daughter.
January 2023
Katie and Alya watched the Dolphins’ home game against the Jets from the sidelines. A 3-year-old Alya cutely wore a denim jacket with her father’s last name on the back.
