Patrick Swayze Honored at the ‘Road House’ Remake NYC Premiere

Patrick Swayze was honored at the New York City premiere of Jake Gyllenhaal‘S Road house remake on Tuesday, March 19.

Before the film started, a photo of the late actor was shown on the big screen with a tribute: “In memory of Patrick Swayze whose legacy of strength and greatness reminds us all to be kind.”

The title card is not expected to appear on the streaming version, which will be released on Prime Video on Thursday, March 21.

Swayze, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2009 at the age of 57, played the lead role in 1989 Road house as a bouncer at a particularly boisterous bar in the Midwest. Gyllenhaal, 43, will play the role in the sequel. They previously worked together on the 2001 drama Donnie Darko.

“I mean, from the jump, from the moment I met Patrick, we’ve been working on the film Donnie Darko – and of all the scenes we filmed and over the years, of him and his wife, Lisa [Niemi] — and even Lisa to this day — have just been loving and supportive,” Gyllenhaal shared Entertainment tonight at the premiere. “I mean, they were just such a beautiful couple. I think he grew up with that kind of idea of ​​a theatrical dance ensemble, and he always brought that to the groups he worked with and brought that to me. “I have thought back to the time I worked with Patrick Donnie Darko, and revisiting this great man in the original Road House and so many other films. I never stopped being a fan,” Gyllenhaal wrote on March 3. “He was such a talent and I still have so much respect and admiration for what he brought out and into the world. I will never forget his kindness towards me when I started. He didn’t have to take the time, but he always did.”
